At last my final thread on calibers. Out of all the .270s or 7mms, I'de like to know your opinion on it. Since there are so many (.270 WSM, .270 Weatherby, .270 Win, and more. And 7mm UM, SAUM, Rem. Mag, WSM, and more) I don't feel like I can accurately research any of them, considering people can be one sided and obviously some BCs are stretched. I don't care about brass cost as much as I care about barrel life, brass life, accuracy, and BCs. Just give me your personal experiences, that speaks in higher volumes than reading a chart.

That depends on who's experience it is, and the chart. In general, I'd disagree.



Just figure out what bullet you want to run how fast, then pick the case that'll do it without drama.

My first thought is you're splitting hairs. .277 vs. .284 isn't a lot of difference. In my experience they're both good performers in good rigs, and both can be equally accurate. I have a '51 Remington 721 in .270 win and it's quite accurate and a has killed a great deal of game. It's my crawl through brush, mountain gun. If I was wanting more than my .270 I'd probably go to an '06 just because there isn't that much difference to step it up to a 280Rem for example. A lot of my answer would also depend on what you're planning on shooting with it. Are you hoping to shoot long range (600+ yards) at game, for example? If you're planning on shooting matches, for example, I'd go 7mm as there's more match bullet choices out there in 7mm.

There's a pile variables that can go into choosing an gun and caliber. Just read your other recent threads, and based on you wanting to get a Gunwerks LR-1000, I'd go with a factory caliber, and probably pick the 6.5-284 Norma off the list they have for that rifle. My last two bits, because we are obviously different shoppers, are if I had that kind of cash to spend on a new rig, I know I could get two great rifle set-ups in two different calibers of my choice. I'm fairly confident you can get the same performance for half the cost, but to each his own. Let us know what you decide. BTW, I also think the 280AI has a lot going for it and really think a 7-08 is underrated for all but long shots.

Either you follow the crowd and get a 270 like everybody else & their brother, or you step out of the box, be your own man and choose a good 7mm.

7mm is a better bullet.
