I am working on a project and am thinking about doing a 22-250 AI with 75gr A-max bullets for a little long range shooting/chucking. I have a 1:9 twist 26" Savage takeoff barrel from my .223 that shoots lights out to rechamber. I am in the process of getting a Savage action with accutrigger and .473 bolt face to use so it should mate up well. Any thoughts on this setup? Any other calibers you would reccomend?

Be sure you get the Target Accutrigger other wise go with an aftermarket trigger.

Coul;d go with one of the 22/243 wildcats such as the Cheetah or others. With 75gr bullerts the extra capacity woud be useable.

I was thinking about that or a 220 Swift improved. Pushing a 75gr Amax around 3500-3600fps has some amazing ballistics....decisions

My .220 AI set up to shoot the 75gr A-max is due back to me this month. Shilen barrel, HS stock, with a Savage action. I was hoping to have it back a while ago but the barrel took a little longer than planned. So unfourtunetly I don't have any review on the caliber yet but the projected ballistics do look nice.
If Iam not hunting, Iam thinking about hunting.

I built a SA remington with a benchmark 26" #4 1-10 twist 22-250 AI bedded with pillars. 70 grain standard bullets will stablize tried 75 amax but didn't work. 60 grain sirrea into .3 at a 100. Using 414 powder and match brass that i reformed from 308 LC match, Alot of fun to shoot crows and see them disappear in a black cloud. Elton

I would highly recommend that you not waste the money re-chambering that Savage barrel. Go with a new barrel or save your money till you can get a new barrel...too many reasons to list. Pac Nor is right in your neck of the woods, they have 2000 reamers in stock and will throat the barrel for the length that you want your OAL to be at no extra charge.
If you are wanting the ultimate in a 22 caliber, then the 22/6 Rem is the ticket shooting the 75's at 3600.

i'm getting 3350 out of my 1-8 twist 22-250AI with 75Amax and molly. It's fun on steel! haven't shot anything with it yet other than steel!
I can't spell... Deal with it...
