Guys, I have a Remington Mdl 721 barreled action in 30-06 that was given to me by a good friend. I plan on a custom build in either a 338-06 or .35 Whelen.
My question is this: Minus the rear sight hump on the 721 barrel, what is the major difference in the action, if there is any? Will a stock for a 700 action fit the 721?
Thanks in advance for your replies, Dave

You will need to do a little inletting around the tang, safety, and bolt handle of a 700 stock when you use a pre-700 721/722/725 action.

I've built a 35Whelen on a 721 and dropped it into a 700 BDL stock. I used the original 721 mag box and bottom metal so I had to fill the openning for the bottom metal at the front and rear action screws to match the thinner metal. The stock had to be fitted for the different safety and bolt handle, just a little material was taken out for clearance. Mine was a rebore so I had to make room for the rear sight donut. Erich

Thanks, guys. I was hoping put it into an H-S stock and didn't want to have to have too much material removed / added.
