Inbound tube has me hamstrung on a 23-24" tube max. Wanted to do another Roy but now thinking a 22" 25/284 may be in order. Have a pile of lapua brass stashed..... Really like the way the VLD's fly in other rigs so I was just thinkin' outloud.... Other thought was a 250AI W

It ain't inbound yet. Hopefully tomorrow.
I only shoot 100 TSX in my 25-284. Hell. I only shoot 100 TSX in all my quarterbores save for a 75 VMAX every once in a while.
Good to get those creative juices flowing again though........ain't it?

250AI don't suck. Especially with the lighter TTSX's.

I haven't played with the VLD types, but in my 2.8" 25-284 the 115 B Tip is fine if that helps any.
Anybody who seriously concerns themselves with the adequacy of a Big 7mm for anything we hunt here short of brown bear, is a dufus. They are mostly making shidt up. Crunch! Nite-nite!

You won't get powder crush or compressed load with the 115 VLD's. There is still plenty of room in the case. I load mine to 2.70 OAL in a hunting rig with no issues at all. I like the 115 grain Nosler ballistic tip and it is just a smidge shorter than the Berger 115's. Either works fine in the 700 mag box. If you drop them in single shot, throat the barrel for whatever length gets you giddy. I like 24-26 in barrels in the .25-284. It obtains about 30 fps. per inch of barrel. George, where did you get 75 grain XLC's? I have a major stash of 100 grain XLC's, but never saw or heard of 75's. Are you holding out on me? I shoot 75 grain Vmax's at 3,750. I can only imagine it getting better with an XLC at like speed. Mine easily pitches 100 grain XLC's at 3,500 fps. great round. Flinch

I just installed a wyatts box MBE-4 in a SA Rem 700. Now the 6mm-284 fits and feeds with the 107 SMKs. It was pretty easy but took some time to remove the steel with the dremel. It would be a worthwhile change. The OAL is 2.990" or so. http://wyattsoutdoor.com/product_in.../osCsid/ae9a1592e96726c4666dff62b4b67f04
