I finally got to shoot my new 260 rem today. .82 for the first five shot group with 129 gr sst's and imr4350 in rem brass with cci primers. I only had about 30 minutes, so that was the only load I tried. Can't wait to try the 120 nbts, 130 and 140 bergers, and 139 sceners.

The build is a matte savage tactical action with a 26" shilen 1in8 twist ss barrel in a tan and black b&c duramaxx stock. Topped with a burris FFII 4-14x42. Right at 11 lbs with a bipod.

I've got pics, but can't figure out how to upload

I'd bet that's a comfortable rig to shoot. You'll likely get many a good group out of it.

Good shooting. You might also try RL22 under the heavies. Extremely consistent in our 8 twist. I hit a good load early and never experimented with other powders though I think H4350 would do well.

The 260 is like a 223, in the way that it is really hard to find a powder that does not perform well for accuracy.

then you only problem is the velocity you want to try and get out of it..

but because of high BC, the 6.5 bore doesn't have to be fired at ultra high velocity to be flat shooting..

and most 6.5 bullets don't need high velocity to efficient game getters...

that's the beauty in a 260..

It is nice to read a positive post on the .260.
As an early .260 owner, I am sick of the gloom and doom of the people who haven't shot one and dismiss it.

Thanks for the post.

I use IMR 7383 (surplus powder) in mine with a 139gr and get .5". Never tried the 129gr but mine does not like the 120gr stuff. IMR 4831 should be good with 140gr too.
Mine is on an Encore platform with an 8" twist. It is the cheapest gun to shoot = uses surplus powder, CCI 34 primers, Win 243 brass and PMC 139gr PSP bullets. Because I buy in bulk, each shot costs me about $.20
