First off, thanks to dvdegeorge. He helped me out with the stock and it turned out great.

Remington 700 in .223AI. The barrel is a Douglas #1 SS at 20", twisted 1-8". I trimmed the Ti take-off as much as I could without getting into the cheekpiece. The LOP came out at 11 1/2" with a flip-flop pad. The pad could use a little more fitting, but the whole process was much easier than I expected.

The stock started out as "The Clown Killer"...

Three boys and three favorite colors. The youngest is green, he forfeited it for yellow (so his shootin iron would match his wheeler) but then backed out...after the paint job. Being the patient kinda dad I am, the yellow got sprayed green.

It was six pounds even before the stock trim. It's noticeably lighter in the butt after the trim and pad change. Balanced perfectly before, not bad now.

It's got a Burris in Talley lows right now, but that might change to a Loopy 4x soon.

Bluedreaux;
Thanks for sharing the photos of your boys' rifle Eric, it is a fine looking "boys rifle" if I've ever seen one. cool

I'll send you a tip of the hat too for taking the time to make a special rifle for them, which I'm certain will encourage them even more as you teach them this hunting thing we all love.

Well done indeed sir and again, very cool.

Thanks again Eric, I love to see this sort of thing.

Regards,
Dwayne

Thanks for the kind words guys.

They'll be critter pics for sure. Plan on taking the oldest to the range this weekend for some fire forming. As soon as he's ready we'll find a place with some pigs, hopefully before it gets too hot.

Very nice, Eric! A little effort to make something unique and special says a lot about how you love your boys - says it to all of us, but most importantly, to them.

Even better will be all the memories y'all will have with it!

Nothing like hunting with the young 'uns!!

Hope y'all have lots of hours together hunting and shooting and teaching them what's right.

Nice job!

Thanks DJ. I'm guessing that between 2012 and 2024 I won't have a chance to kill a thing....Don't think I'll mind either.

+1 on that! I'm in the same boat with you, although I carry my own rifle so it won't get lonely at home. I've been loading and unloading the same 4 rounds for about 10 yrs now.....enjoy while we can, time like this is NOT replaceable.

Nice rifle, "custom" designing it and doing the work yourself makes it priceless.

Very cool rig; your boys are fortunate to have a dad like you. That is awesome.

I too look forward to kill shots.

Thanks for sharing, it's been said already but it's great to see a dad who invests that kind of effort to make something his boy will treasure as it's unique for him. Great job!

Turned the family car into a rolling wagon of gunpowder and lead this evening...Life don't suck.

The new rifle shoots great. I picked up some 75 grain Swifts in the classifieds this morning so we'll be whacking pigs before long.

Warmed up on the rimfire...

You're a good dad and a good guy Blue...

How'd they like the recoil of the .223 compared to the .22LR?

They never even mentioned the recoil Greg. I watched them real close for signs of flinching or the old "close your eyes and mash it" method but didn't see either. Of course it was too big for the youngest to absorb the recoil, he just tucked it under his arm and I held the recoil pad for him.

I've got some rifle grade steel on the way this week. Nothing beats instant positive reinforcement for a confidence boost and steel is good for that.

We're trying to enjoy the spring, it won't last long. Saw my first snake of the year last week.

Outstanding. Those pics are great. Our little one is only 4 months, but I've got the parts all assembled for the same basic build. I wonder what colour scheme she'll decide on?
