Something like this? I just got an old SRC in the door and it had a front sight stamped "Stewart" on one side and "Pat Apr 21 1914" on the other. Can't find anything on these guys.

On another note, I also got a very early 1899 in as well (serial 10378), it had been D&T'd but all I wanted off it was the stock off it for an unfinished 1895 that just needed wood. Took it off and it was numbered to the gun but check it out, it's definitely an old 1895 stock from the Marlin factory. Also, the bolt was 1899 but the barrel was 1895 by the barrel address but no M or JM stamps on it that I could find. The serial number is stamped on it and an assembly mark of a circled S is there to. No numbers on the buttplate or the forearm. Pretty neat morning so far. grin

Now the old 1895 looks alot better that it got it's furniture back. Came to me with a set of mismatched 1899 wood on it.

Gary, thanks, much appreciated, at least now I know it's legit. Wonder when Stroebels gonna add those ones to his book?

Steve, thanks but I just noticed in the pic she's pretty proud on that lower tang. Awww well, good to have it back together rather than collecting dust I guess.

but the barrel was 1895 by the barrel address

Interesting. Quite a while back I sold RLG a barrel that we both thought was a '95 barrel but it turned out to be an early '99 barrel and he told me that the shank was too big to fit a '95. That would mean that a '95 barrel shank would be too small to fit a '99 receiver. Wondering what's going on here.

George, was the barrel stamped like an 1895 or did it have an A-1 barrel addy? I know alot of guys get that one mixed up and I'm probably gonna get a talking to from you treating you like a newbie but just double checking.

Yup. Don't make no never mind though. At the time of sale we both thought the '95s and the '99s had the same shank. The next time I met RLG at a gunshow up here he told me that it wouldn't fit his '95. When I bought it I thought it was a '99 barrel and it appears I was correct. Maybe Dick will pop up here and clear this up or add to the confusion. grin
