Well with about 10 years collecting parts she is getting close. I need to do something with the but plate as it is hard for me to look at. (may just by a neider style and fit it but it was supposed to be all savage parts.) The sling swivels need to go as well thought about fitting a set of these recessed ones to the rifle as it will cover up the two screws from the existing. I wonder if the holes can be made to disappear?
Also I read on here something about using a rust blue card to clean up the little surface rust? Anyone here have experience with that? And I also read here oxpho blue to touch up?
I have thoughts of a custom tang mounted ghost ring sight as well.
I would love to hear thought and sugestions as to the finishing touches.
Thanks chris

if there is enough LOP, I would consider a Neidner. Is the flush mount sling stud large enough to cover the existing holes... if it is, that would be my choice for sure. Filling the holes and trying to make them "disappear" will be nearly impossible.

Nice looking little put together... what is the caliber?

The stock has not been cut so it would be what 13.5? I have a set of savage but plate screws nearly new just waiting on the but plate.
I was told making the holes disappear would be near imposable.
Is a 303 sav

That will be a great rifle to hit the woods with. You might consider just a smooth metal buttplate for that, that's all that the early SR's had on them.

Got something similar here on the bottom..

I'm with Rory... since it is basically a factory Savage gun... i would try to find an early shotgun buttplate that is not lined or grooved.... that would look the best to me. OHHHH... or if you can convince Blair to send his buttplate out for duplication... a thick HRBP!!!

I don't know, but a Niedner-style steel butt plate would add class to anything, including this one.

I could have held that 1895 reloading tool hostage at my place till he went through the proper channels and got some of those made.

Hey, I know a guy on this forum that makes a living off of making plastic things. I'd bet he would be the one to talk to about these buttplates.

No not imposable
I used to deliver furniture to big dept stores and they were always wanting repairs on in store damage.
The bloke in the stain shop set me up with a repair kit
A spirit based wood filler( we had 5 colours so I had 5 tins)
A bit of experermenting with wood filler and spirit stain will get the right base wood colour
then get the matching colour of the grain( you will have to work out if straight or diluted)
Once the filler is dry take a very fine artist brush and redo the grain lines with the spirit stain match
Let dry Then lightly oil
Just my 2 cents worth cheers
Graham
