Hello, I am thinking of buying an 1893 carbine in 30/30. I am completely ignorant of the weapon. What are things to look for that would make or break the value of the weapon? Thanks.

Bore condition, extra holes, refinish, wood cracks or splits.

Make or break the value depends on the potential function. Are you collecting or are you planning on hunting/shooting?

If collecting look for all original parts, not refinished and as clean as possible.

If it's going to be used as a shooter and/or for hunting check the bore, use a dummy round to examine how how the rifle functions and cycles, etc. Take a good look at the wood as noted above.

Value is very individual element. The rifle is as valuable as you're willing to pay for it.

What shawlerbrook said..
I just picked up a 1893 30-30 a month or so ago and love it,it's still a great shooter at 100 years old.
I wanted one for hunting not to sit in the safe.

Value depends on condition and age just like any other rifle. The 93 has not special bugs or problem models that you have to watch out for. As long as it is a .30-30 anyway. Carbines are worth somewhat less than long rifles in my experience.
