Just bought a new Henry 22 lever. Great shooter so far, but am having trouble seeing the front post. What to do? Is there an easy way to paint the sight? Is there a good replacement front sight for sale?
Thanks for looking.

I, too, have a Henry .22, and experienced the identical problem. In my case, it's due to deteriorating eyesight associated with age. To ameliorate the problem, I bought a small bottle of florescent yellow paint at a gun show and applied a dab to the front sight. While not a perfect solution, it helps me to pick up the front sight notwithstanding my deteriorating eyesight.

Tuco,
Thanks for the suggestion. I bought some florescent orange paint yesterday and am going to do the same to my rifle. That is my problem too, old eyes.

my only real gripe on the Henry is the cheap POS plastic sight they use. besides not being easy to see, i can't get mine adjust any lower, i have the stepped ramp completely out of it. think i will eventualy get a peep sight of some sorts for it.

I agree that Henry's plastic front sight is cheesy. I remember reading somewhere that somebody (Henry?) makes an aftermarket front sight and barrel band made of genuine steel. You might wanna check around to confirm that such things are, in fact, available.

Henry does indeed have a metal front sight/barrel band available, the paint was flaking off of the receiver on mine and I emailed Henry and got a response from Mr Imperato, the president of the co. himself! he not only sent me a new receiver cover but gave me the front sight (I did complain about the crappy plastic sight) and a steel forearm band as well! Give them a call and get the upgrade part(s).

The folks at Henry are extremely helpful. I had concerns about the ejection of shells since I was considering their lever .22 for my son who is a southpaw. When I emailed they prompty replied and assured me the rifle was ambidextrous (and it is). Moreover, when my son wrote them a note saying how much he liked his new rifle, they sent him a gun case and tin sign for his wall - no charge!

That's the way to show there are people behind the company name. American people in American jobs!

Way to go Henry!

I applied a daub of orange sight paint to the issue front sight on mine, and installed a Williams WM-96 peep sight.

Go with the florescent paint or if possible have a gunsmith put a brass bead on it.

Thanks for the reviews on this rifle. It's on my short list of what to get next. Of course other guns keep jumping in the way.

I have a Frontier. It comes with a metal fore end band, and metal sights.

I changed to a Williams WGRS peep due to "mature eyes" as my eye doctor calls them,. I needed to change the front sight as it was too short for the peep. Went with a skinner front sight.

Got it sighted in and near the end of the day as I got more used to it, groups got better. Shot a 4 shot group with all shots touching at 25 yds from a seated position on the ground.

Rifle is darn accurate, has great balance and the action is as smooth as silk.

Would post a pic, but the images keep appearing totally messed up.
