I bought a Marlin model 57 off one of the auction sites and I really don't know a thing about them. I was wondering if anyone on this site might have some info or opinions that they would be willing to share.

I have a couple of 57M (22mag) and a couple 57's and really like them. I have a lot of extra parts for them if you need anything. Unless you have a lot of extra time, don't take the trigger group apart. There are a lot of springs and cams inside.

bart426, I've got a 57M that I've had for years. Very accurate, have killed a lot of stuff with it. It's sorta got pushed to the back of the safe outta sight. Think I'll get it out, dust it off, and use it on squirrels this year.

My dad had one of the first one of these, and my brother has it now. When he bought it I had a 39a and thought his model 56 was the ugliest gun alive but after seeing him shoot it I changed my mind.The only thing ever done to it was a refinised stock and the barrel cut off to 18", Never a problem with it.

had the sears version of one- it was a great gun, another one I shouldn't have sold.... Love that short-throw lever. Ditto on the trigger group- best to leave it alone.

I may have pics of trigger group together if anyone tears it apart and cant re-assemble.

As has been said, DON'T disassemble the trigger group. Clean it with a spray cleaner and spray lube. I had one years ago and I know that there is no wood and few, if any, spare parts available for repairs.

In short, nice curiousity, not a rifle to use a lot. Probably true for a lot of older guns.
