Not really a BPCR rig, but just got a LRH 45 cal barrel for my muzzleloader. So going to pull the large bead sight out of its dovetail and considering the Lee Shaver sight. Have a peep rear and wondering about thoughts on that front sight from those who have tried them.

I don't know which Shaver sight or what rifle or tang/peep sight you are going to combine or what an LRH barrel is, but on muzzleloaders, the high wrists tend to require extremely high front sights so you can have a 100 yd zero, or even a 200 yds zero. Do you homework carefully before you buy.
BTW, the Lyman 17a comes in 3 different heights and fit a 3/8" dovetail. I think they sell for about $35 and they are basicall bombproof.

Will take a look at that. This 45 caliber barrel matches up with my 50 cal Green Mountain barrel and is a drop in on my Renegade as well. Have a Lyman rear peep now and on the 50, the front is not terribly high. Will google up 17a though. Thank you.

That 17a looks pretty good to me. I have never used a front sight that has a circle and not a solid aiming point. Is that kind of purely for shooting paper or is it decent in hunting light?

The aperture sights are for shooting round bulls on paper only. The sight also comes with post, post and bead, and crosswire inserts. You will find something you like. They can also be custom made but that's probably not necessary.

Shaver used to offer a modified 17A with a detachable spirit level, but more recently he began making his own sights that take the 17A style inserts. The are probably the most common size of globe sight. Shavers sight has a built in spirit level.
The latest version of the Lyman 17A is quite nice. I had one in my hands, but it wasn't just what I wanted, but not because of any quality issues.
Last I checked, the Shaver was about $85, but the Lyman 17A is about $35. The Lyman is a bargain, IMO.
Whatever sight you get, make sure it is the correct height.
I have both 17As and Shaver's.
