If you have recovered a bullet fired while hunting, please tell us about it.

Recovering bullets is pretty darn rare, but here are two from Africa. On the far right, from a springbok shot at 215 yds. Mostly lengthwise through the body. It lost a bunch of weight, maybe 50%. I have forgotten.

Next the same bullet from an Eland shot at about 60 yds broadside, centered the heart and came to rest under the skin at the base of neck on the other side. This bullet lost very little weight - maybe 3-4 grs at most.

The unfired bullets are the same 535 grs of 40:1

The details I wrote up and posted here.

Got this one back from a lil raghorn elk, hit him quartering away at 204 yds. It started out as a 540 gr sharps patched bullet.

I have only recovered one bullet from a Sharps in all of the years I have been doing this. It is a 457121 FN Lyman at 480 grains and 1242 fps. I shot a kudu cow square in the chest from 80 yards and the skinner found the bullet in the rear of the kudu after it penetrated in a straight line for 37 inches. The bullet looks like the one Don posted. I haven't weighed it, but it didn't lose much weight.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, recovered bullets are on the rare side. I have yet to recover one, they all seemed to just keep going. That includes one black bear that was hit with a .457122, the 330 grain hollow point. I expected that one to stop inside the bear. It was a broadside shot through the chest. Of course, I'll keep looking. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
