I could pick up a 1998 GC for next to nothing. 5.2, auto with 127,00 miles. Seller says it has possible electrical issues. It will not start. I will get more info and look at ti in person tommorrow. I'm still researching, but anybody here ever deal with a GC and any electrical issues? Thanks, mtmuley

I'd ask the guy why he thinks it's electrical issues and if he ever had any other problems before it failed to start.

Does it turn over? Is the starter and battery good?

A broad term like "electrical issues" doesn't sound like an informed diagnosis. It could be a problem with the ignition, fuel injection or ... ???

FWIW, I know nothing about GCs specifically.

I've had problems with the switch in the transmission that allows the engine to start when the transmission is in park. When this switch goes bad, the Jeep would only start in neutral.

I have seen bad connections on the ecm, battery acid corrosion because the wire harness runs UNDER the battery, and goofy glitches in how ground circuits are run. This is just general Chrysler/Jeep stuff, not neccessarily GC specific. Some fixes are cheap, some are labor intensive, some just piss a man off. Find more info and post, might help.

Need more detail, but it could be any number of things. Neutral safety switch was mentioned above, if it starts in N then that's likely the culprit. If it cranks and doesn't start it's likely that it's the crank position sensor. I have a lot of experience with GC's, I had a 98 that was really well built that I had apart numerous times so if you have any specific questions let me know.

If it was well built, why did you have it apart many times? grin

Well built as in lifted, 4-link longarm suspension, axle swaps, built 4.0, built trans, etc....yeah definitely not built well by Chrysler (I don't think I've ever seen a Chrysler vehicle that rolled off the assembly line "well built")

Hey thanks guys. I got busy, but I'm going to call the owner back and get more detailed info. At 500 bucks or so, I may not get hurt too bad no matter the problem. mtmuley
