Winchester made some High Walls recently in .375 H&H. Anyone have one? If so, how is recoil compared to a #1 in .375? I bumped into one for sale NIB at a reasonably manageable price. It's kind of an intriguing option given that I'm set up with enough brass, dies, and bullets to stay busy for a while despite the shortage of components.

Yes Sir, have had one for almost two years now, using it in our so-called primitive season. Got a couple deer with it last season.
It is the only 375 I've ever shot, but I can compare it to my No.1 9.3x74R - The High Wall is a pussycat, not unpleasant at all with the 235 and 260 grain loads I've worked up to max with. The nice pad that came on it and the hefty weight really make it enjoyable to shoot, least for me.
The 9.3 can get a little rough, especially with 286's - but heck, it's probably a good 3 pounds lighter and has the thin little original pad.

Thanks for the feedback.
I've had 4 .375s so far, 2 #1s, an early Model 70, and a 700 XCR. Despite being the lightest by nearly 3 pounds, the 700 was the most pleasant to shoot by a lot. Stock fit + having a GOOD recoil pad makes a world of difference. The #1s just don't handle recoil well at all for me, doesn't matter what they're chambered for.

Hi there, I've had my high wall safari 375 for a little over a year. Can't compare it to a #1, but recoil is very manageable. That heavy 28" tube tames it quite well. If you go for it, talley is now making a one piece base that fits the rifle, a much nicer setup than the leupold bases. Also recommend a skinner peep that mounts in the rear dovetail. Took 2 deer with mine last year.
