Has anyone out there had any experience with 338 Federal or 350 Rem Mag in their TC Encores? I am contemplating ordering one or the other in a standard 24 " Encore Barrel. I would like to get your input on either cartridge. And in particular as chambered in an Encore.
Thanks, Rabbitdog

For a 24 inch tube on a single shot, I would go with the 35 Whelen.
The 338 fed, and the 350 Remmy are great rounds.
But they are short action rounds and less available than the Whelen.
In a single shot 24 inch tubed rifle, they offer no advantage but do have some disadvantages.
All that being said, if you wanna play with 'em, I would go with the 350 Remmy for its "coolness".

I have a 20" Heavy Barrel 350 Rem Mag Encore. I love it shoots the 225 gr Ballistic Tip Superbly. Try it, you will like it.

To be honest I do not know. That barrel came from T/C Fox Ridge Outfitters. I would bet it's a 14 or 16 but again I don't know and I don't know as T/C puts that info anywhere on their site. I will tell you that it has the typical T/C long throat. I don't remember offhand the numbers but I do know that I have those 225 gr Ballistic Tips seated out to a longer OAL that Nosler lists for the 35 Whelen! But boy does it shoot.

Hmmmmmm. Of the two I would choose the 350 Rem Mag and hand load for it. Also ensure the throat was long enough not to invade on case capacity if using heavy 250 grainers. Nothing against the 338 Federal just seems the 350 has the horsepower advantage between the two if thats what you are looking at. The 338 has better bullet selection in that caliber but I don't know how useful they all are with the 338Fed casing.
Keep your powder dry and stay frosty my friends.
