I have a nib ruger no 1a 7x57 one of the last ones made. I haven't set it up for shooting yet. I noticed a little cooper fouling at the muzzle that I assume was from test firing at the factory. A gunslick wetted patch seemed to take care of it, but after closer inspection I noticed some slight marks on the lands. I cleaned from the breech using a carbon fiber rod with bore guide so I don't think I put them there. The marks don't appear to be a burr at least they didn't catch any cotton off the end of a q-tip. So my question is are these ever so slight marks normal for a ruger barrel and a result of manufacture and of no consequence? I would post pictures but I don't think they would show much. The crown seems fine. Any responses from those with experience with ruger barrels would be appreciated.

I had a 1-A 257 Roberts, had the same bumps on the lands, visible at the crown. The bumps were visible because they used to foul really bad. Friggin gun wouldnt group for crap. Sent it back to Ruger on their dime, it came back as tested OK with a test target and nothing done. Called about it and they said the accuracy was within their tolerance. Test target showed a 2" group, so I asked them what ammo they used. They were using a Federal load that isnt made anymore, at least I couldnt find it. Then they told me that the group was shot at 50 yards. CS person refused to pay for the gun to go back.

Sent an email to the CEO, got a call to ship the rifle back. Came back about 2 months later with a not stating that the barrel had been replaced. It still had the same bumps in the same spots. Gun went down the road.

Since my initial post I have taken the rifle to the range. I shot 1.5"-1.75" groups with prvi partizan 139 grain stuff at 100yards with a m8 4x28 scope. Fouling was very noticeable at the muzzle where the marks on the lands are. Im Happy with accuracy for the 1st load I tried. For my purposes good enough, and I won't be examining it with a borescope anytime soon.

I should of stated that the marks on the muzzle of my rifle appeared to be more of a break in the finish not a dig or bump. The edges of the lands are sharp and well defined and the crown was intact. I had a smith take a peek at it and he said not to fret until I shot the thing. Once I did I really couldn't complain. Hawkdriver, Sorry your experience wasn't a good one.
