Did anyone see or is familiar with arrows launched from a fifty caliber rifle I am assuming it is a PCP type as one fellow had one with a double tank under the barrel. It launch a 930 gr. arrow at 550 fps. It just blew through a hog at 50yds like it wasn't even there. IIRC the energy was like 300 foot pounds. Any body know any thing about this new endeavor.
I am curious. P.S. I believe it was one of the hunting shows,
just don't remember which one. Cheers NC

The show was air gunner and I need to correct- the arrow weighs 430 grs. and energy is 230 f/# otherwise good to go. Cheers NC

While this technology and device are new to hunting, I hope more states will allow this for hunting game animals.

I think it'd be a hoot to bowfish with as well.

No it was different than that, it was a full size and as I mentioned one had a double air tank under the barrel and you twisted the arrows to follow the rifling as you loaded the arrow. I believe Air Venturi was mentioned. I just don't know all the details at this time but was impressed. Cheers NC

Could be.

That one only launches at "up to 300 fps w/ Arrow".

Pretty slow compared to the AirBow at 450 fps.

Don't know if either makes the OP's footpounds of energy though.

Swivel Machine also produces an air powered arrow launcher and claims 600 fps. They also market barrels for Ruger rimfires that use blanks to get up to 435 fps. Neither come close to the 300 foot pound mark though. I have one of the 10/22 barrels but have never used it.

I’m not sure of the date, but I believe it was back in the mid 1970’s a company offered a more militarized air powered arrow gun to the US military for covert use.
The idea was as a means to quietly take out sentries without having to get too close.

For whatever reason, I don’t believe that the military bought it, so they went commercial.

Swivel Machine Works Ink. (swivelmachine.com) offers arrow shooting rifles using both high pressure air and industrial blanks,

Their top of the line offering is the Airrow Stealth capable of exceeding 500 FPS with light weight arrows.

Airrow Stealth

I was interested in one until I saw the $1,600.00 price tag.

However, they do offer a modification for the Ruger 10-22 rifle.
I bought a full kit, Barrel, arrows, and pack of high powered industrial blanks for less than $500.00.

It is marked for Blanks Only.

10-22 Arrow Rifle Part 2

[Linked Image]
Arrow Loaded

[Linked Image]
Broadhead shield installed on the outer shroud.

I bought a box of each power level industrial blank to see how they would shoot.

[Linked Image]
Velocity testing the different industrial blanks,

Velocity ranged from a low of not pushing the arrow off the barrel (Brown level) to over 300 fps with the max power blanks from Swivel Machine.

Top loads were very powerful.
About one in three would shoot clear through the back stop that readily stops my crossbow bolts
We usually found them within 30 feet of the target.

[Linked Image]
Three shot group at 50 yards.
Only one arrow is visible on this side.
I had to pull the arrows completely through the backstop.

Overall, this kit performs as advertized.
I like it so much that I bought another 10-22 and made up a permanent arrow shooting rifle.

So, is it archery?
Of course not. Anything that has a trigger release is not archery.

Is it practical?
Nope.

Is it fun?
Yep!

Steve

these will work in an existing air gun. No modifications necessary.
