There is no gun anymore you can own without prior (& time limited) authorization + tax.

The last ones we were allowed to freely own where the historical and folkloric weapons, such historic guns from WWI & WWII, old guns from 19th century and before + some BP guns for folkloric purpose. Now it's over.Lots of people will have to sell at low cost if they don't want the guns to be destroyed or stolen by the cops.

I'm very concerned 'cause I'm from a region where BP reenactment is deeply part of the inhabitants ' lives for centuries.

This time it's the christian conservative who banned them (the previous gun control law was from socialists), so we have a deeper problem than right Vs left politics.

What a blatant miscarriage of justice and the violation of people's rights.


Is there any hope or way to appeal or rescind the new law?

One way: municipal elections in october, if they think they don't need the area's votes and cities, we're doomed.

I surely hope the people get in the ears of the politicians and turn the rascals out of office in October.

I hope they'll ear the message before the municipal elections 'cause the folkloric season starts in spring.

The matter is that Belgium is a small very populated country where most of the people, in and out of towns are ... city people.

We are seeing the impact of the urban vs rural voter here in North Carolina where I live too.

They really skew the election results.

It's almost like you guys are living in a Province in South Africa. Wow, I feel for you because we went through something similar. Fortunately the hunting organizations challenged the process in court and we won on grounds of our constipation constitution.

As a licensed hunter I keep the right to keep my hunting guns ans I could claim my BP musket (I own it for folk traditional events in my area) could be registered as a hunting gun.

But most of the BP folk guns owners aren't licensed hunters or sport shooters.

How hard would it be for those folks to get a hunting or sport shooting license?

Too hard and to expansive for simple BP blank shooting during folk events. Hunting license examen is not reachable for every one and annual hunting costs are just not low. How hard would it be to admit only dumb asses do attack banks with muskets ?

Is it a requirement to have a place to hunt (i.e. lease, belong to a hunting club own land) before applying for a hunting license?

No, but the three examens are not easy (not as hard as the german ones but nos easy) and it costs you 250 euros a year + many of the BP guns can't be qualified as hunting weapons.

Over 325.00 per year just to maintain a hunting license. OUCH!

That is rather expensive.

At the age of 68 my mother had to write her exam to keep her 2 1/2" 38 for self defence. She does'nt like the revolver at all BUT it makes her feel safe.

Our exams are open book because I think a portion of the population would never pass the exam anyway.

We also have not seen silly people toting bolt action rifles when robbing banks. These days they blow up ATM's with dynamite rather than charging a bank.

not mentioning the hunting rights you have to pay yearly to access hunting grounds. If you don't have a ground of your own and joign a "hunting club", you will not pay less than 400 euros a year with no right to a guest for a cheap small game ground.

It goes up to 20.000 a year or 1000 + a day on the best big game grounds with red stags on it.

hunting here means big money or big sacrifices ...

I know if I had to pay fees like that to access hunting ground if would price me totally out of hunting.

We are truly blessed here in the States to have access to lots of public ground and none of the onerous licensing requirements for our guns.

I am also fortunate here in NC on the cost of the licenses.

For $40.00 we can purchase the "Sportsman" license which comes with 6 deer tags (in the area I hunt you can also purchase unlimited doe tags at 2 for $10.00), a black bear tag, two wild turkey tags, all small and upland game (i.e. squirrel, rabbit, and grouse)and all inland freshwater fishing including trout.
