On a pre-64 30-06 standard, a red rubber pad would not be original, correct? And, if the length of pull is 13", the stock has been cut, right?

Thank you in advance for the info. Looking to not make a mistake on a rifle...

The original butt plate was steel as far as I know.

A LOP that short must have been cut.

Back when they were making those standard M70's I passed on that particular model as it was so heavy.

If you like the rifle as it is and the price is right its always fun to try another gun.

Winchester would do almost anything a customer asked as a special order, but it's very unlikely that a standard grade 30/06 would have had such a factory treatment.

Do not buy a pre 64 30.06 for collectibility if it doesn't have a steel butt ! There is a very rare possibility that the factory did it, but no way to prove it. 30.06 was the most popular caliber followed by the .270. 99.9% had steel butts.
