Scarfed up a vintage Weaver K2,5 post reticle scope, plus vintage rings, bases, for my 1949 Winchester Model 70.

I know the scope is from about 1949-1950 because of the bubble type adjustment covers, the black dials and the external screws on the saddle. See here, on a Savage 99: K2.5 Ad from 1949

The rings are the Weaver single piece type, and I needed to take off the ocular and the lock ring to mount the rear scope ring.

The old K2.5 Weavers are great scopes, I had a 60B K2.5 on my pre '64 M/88 .308 it had a post and crosshair reticle. I killed the biggest deer ever with that set-up, a heavily palmated 11 pointer that field dress 254#.

Are the rings on the scope the one's you're talking about? If so they look like normal Weaver rings that do not require taking the scope apart, they just kind of "snap" over the scope tube.

Congrats on your Transition M70, I believe that they are the best M70's ever built. All the quality of the pre-war but built to take a scope. My father collected them befroe he passed away and now I continue the collection of Transition era M0's. My dad got out of the Army in 1947 and ordered a M70 and didn't get one till 1950 as they were that hard to get so he ordered a pre-war and got a post-war, hence why he likes the Transitions.

These do require taking the scope apart because the rings are one piece. I even have to pry them open to get on the 1 inch tube.

Here it is set up:

Not questioning you but do you have a picture of the other side of the rings? They look like standard rings that kind of "hook" under the base of the ring on the left side and screw down on the right side. Weaver may very well have made other rings but I've not seen a one pice ring by Weaver and would like to see the other side if possible.

I corresponded with a seller on eBay who sells a lot of Weaver scopes.

He informed me that the correct rings from 1949 would be the one piece Weavers that slip over the front end of a one inch tube, but require removal of the ocular to mount the rear ring.

I had never heard of that either. I was very careful removing the ocular and putting it back on not to get any crud from the old threads into the body of the tube.

Beautiful. A very appropriate mount/optics choice. I haven't seen the one piece Weaver rings either. I wonder what year they changed them.
