Does anyone have or have handled a M70 in 358STA? I know it was a custom shop option for several years but have never actually seen one. I would like to get one to go with the STA I had built on a M70 but wonder about the quality.

If memory serves, they made less than 100 in the stainless/walnut, I've been told less than 50 but can't prove that. I work in a gun shop and before I went to work there 9 years ago, they got in two of them that Ellett Brothers had in the warehouse and "forgot". They came into the store and one of our regular customers bought both of them. He still has them and I've been trying my DAMNDEST to get him to sell me one of them. He's never even fired them but one of them had feed issues with the A-Square loads that Winchester used to develop the rifles. He had a local 'smith tweak the magazine box and it feeds now, although he has yet to fire it.... Anyway, they are absolutely beautiful guns and he swears he's going to "will" one of them to me if he kicks the bucket. I don't wish for that so I'm still bugging him to sell me one of them. There are actually two of them on GunBroker right now, one for $2000, the other for over $3000. If I could swing the $2000 right now, that one would be mine already!

At one time a lot of people wanted one and many had their actions rebarreled. Nowadays we have the .375 Ruger!!

I wanted one of these real bad at one point, but these rifles have the same barrel contour as the classic 375 H&H, and I don't care for a 10lb+ rifle.

Given the rarity of these I thought there would be more, "collector" interest?

I don't see much of any collectors interest in post-64 M70's.
