Hi all,

I just acquired this M70 XTR Sporter in 6.5x55 from 1984. In searching the internet I have not been able to find any others quite like it. It is unusual in that it seems to have some Supergrade features such as the swivels, cheek piece and fancier wood. Anyone seen one like this before?

Looks like a Sporter that's been dropped in a Supergrade stock, resulting in a damn nice-looking rifle!

I don't know where you found it bit you did good. I have been looking for a rifle in 6.X55 on the net for a while and haven't seen anything the strikes my fancy but that one would have. Congrats on a nice rifle in a great caliber.

I agree it appears that someone put it in a SG stock.

Just splitting hairs, but I think that the Winchester/USRA 70 XTR Fwts and Sporters in 6.5x55 were made in 1986, not 1984. I have a couple of the 70 XTR Fwts that are within 50 SNs of each other, G17847xx and G17846xx.

A question relating to 6.5. In the modern mod 70 and other rifles is the bolt face an .06 dimension or do they still make it about .004 bigger like the original Swede?

I have G17010xx, which is 1984 according to the Winchester Firearms Manufacturing Dates by Serial Number and Year pdf.

I got it from a friend who has had it for quite awhile. It is my first push-feed M70, which is something I would not normally be that interested in. I bought it because I like the caliber and it shoots quite well (I have fired it before). It has had a bit of work done; the trigger is very snappy and its bedded.

FWIW previous owner says he was told it was made up for something to do with an SCI show. I don't know any details.

Very nice! I'm jealous just a we bit. Super nice. Cherry on top would've been CRF action. I need to get serious and nab a 6.5x55 Swede.
