I like fly fishing for carp. Hook up and hang on even a 12" fish feels like a locomotive. Can't imagine a fish such as yours on a fly rod but sure would like to try.

I've seen carp here landed, 4-5 feet long. you can see lots of them from the upper floors of the buildings near the river. hard fight when you hook one. my neighbor eats them, and I'm told smoked carp mixed with cream cheese, makes a good cracker dip.

the only real difference between a good tracker and a bad tracker, is observation. all the same data is present for both. The rest, is understanding what you're seeing.

They're fun to catch. Definitely an interesting process with various rigs used.

I've caught them by the tail. They smacked my rooster tail with their tail. Heck of a fight on UL gear. Nice fish.

Tough to catch on a fly as there's little notice of a take. If ones leader moves as much as an inch, however, lift the rod. Pretty much a fresh water bone fish when hooked in the shallows, and one can't muscle them with that soft mouth and small hooks. Great fun and actually stealthy fish when stalking them in the shallows.

Not tried them as table fare.

I recall Smoking them on BBq when young. CARP was Oily not fit to eat. Threw away the fish and the BBQ. BUT try them if you have an extra BBQ. smile

Used to bow fish for them when I was a kid. It's kind of becoming a big deal here in Mn. these days. Lots of guys bowfishing at night off flat bottomed boats with good lighting systems, trolling motors and elevated shooting platforms. They are definitely fun on hook and line. We pulled on into a canoe one time on a small lake in Ohio and quickly learned the importance of latching your tacklebox. He scattered tackle all over the canoe, and he had so many lures stuck to him before we got him subdued, he looked like a friggin' decorated Christmas tree, and we weren't far behind him.
