About 100 or so years ago...<G> I used to occasioally take a full day or even overnight party boat trip down into the Coronado Islands Islands. I have an itch to go do thus trip again, but cannot remember what the best time of year is,typically, for good action on albacore and yellowtail tuna fishing and more important, catching.
Anyone here have a good idea or a reccomended charterboat / captain for these trips?
THANKS!

I used to live in San Diego and spent mucho time on the charter boats.
Basically, Albacore and Yellowtail season is when the water warms up. It starts getting good in early summer and as ocean temps rise big numbers of tuna migrate north from Baja. There are limited amounts of home guard yellowtail that stick around but warm water is the key to numbers as they also migrate.
Generally speaking, the best time is July through the first half of August although in some years fishing stays good well into September. It all depends on the ocean currents and they can vary from year to year.

Thank you, sir! I will most likely start planning a trip down there for sometime in July, health permitting.

Google "best time for albacore in so cal" and you'll find enough info to keep you busy reading for days.

It isn't easy. Mexico once again is enforcing its regulation that no commercial passenger sport boats or private boats may fish within 24 miles of any Mexican-controlled land or island without proper documents and without checking in at Ensenada. The boats are going to fish the outer banks and avoid the Coronados unless something has changed again or again or again.

safariman, Check out www.hmlanding.com. I check the fish count. When it trends up, we book. We have done quite a few long range trips aboard the www.redrooster3.com. I landed a 100lb YFT at Guadalupe aboard this boat.
