This photo appeared last week in the La Grande (Oregon) Observer ....
(scanned from a b/w newspaper page)

The 7x6 bull was taken by archer Mark Moncrief ( an outdoors guide from Enterprise, Oregon) in Wallowa county, Sept. 1st, during the archery season .... scored 388 B/C, and was 50 inches wide ....

I only have the first version of the Oregon Big-Game record book, but if this score holds, this Bull may be the new #1 Oregon (archery) typical Rocky Mtn Elk ...

P.S. .... I think I saw his twin bro' working a rub tree and bugling, while I was out deer hunting.

Silver Bullet..He's a big 'un all right..:)...Even after hunting elk for over 30 years, when one encounters a big branch bull like that up close it always makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck..:)jim
Nice bull. I bet he had fun getting it out of that place.
Stopped by the local archery store yesterday, thinking I would WOW-them with my B/W newspaper photo of Mark's 6x7-388" archery bull (posted above). On their harvest-board, they not only had a color shot (from a different angle) of his elk, but above it was posted a color photo of a real Monster !!

It was a Hugely-massive, Long Tined, Big-Azzed spread (technical-terms) 6x7 bull, that Grosses 420"+. Looking at the color shot of that monster, I can believe it. Details were slim, but it was supposedly harvested during the archery season in Eastern Oregon by a La Grande resident (Matt Turley ?). Scuttlebutt has him hunting on a 4,000 acre private ranch, not too far from town ? While the 7th point sticks outta the main beam in a weird location/angle and will result in a deduct for net-score .. this could still be a 400 class archery bull. A quick call to my La Grande friends, confirmed that it was rumored that a "Local" had stuck a P/Y - Muy-Grande-Bull.

Where's my bow .... Ooop's I probably need a new one ...
Hmmm, maybe one of those new WSM-Bows .... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

If I come across a copy of the photo that I can scan, I'll post it.

SB,

You know, after getting snowed and rained on most of my hunt this year, a bow hunt for elk in Sep during the rut does seem appealing.................
