Fella's, I have a bit of a dilemma. Here in Utah we have a program called the Dedicated Hunter Program. It allows you to hunt deer during the bow, muzzleloader, and rifle season. You are only allowed one deer, but you get 3 chances using different methods to bag game. I have already purchased a muzzleloader, but my problem is, I have never bowhunted in my life, I have never really shot one except once or twice throughout my life, and I'm not even sure it's something I want to do, although the opportunity to be out in the mountains more is what is really appealing. My question, what bow or bows should I be looking at. I'm pretty sure I want a compound, single cam bow, but that is as far as I have investigated. Any help? Thanks

Joe, You might try looking at a PSE or a Hoyt. They have good moderatly priced bows. That is really all that you need. If you can find a dealer or a pro shop they may have a bow that they have a deal on. The place that I get my equipment from has a good deal on a Hoyt split limb single cam. Half a dozen carbon arrows, quiver, fiber optic sight, limb savers, wrist loop, knock loop, and a good rest and that is selling for about 450 I think. Sounds kinda high but for what you are getting it is pretty top of the line. I know several people that have seen me shoot and wanted to try. They weren't sure that they would like it. Now they all bowhunt. Once you kill one with a bow you'll be hooked. It took me 4 years to even get a good shot at one but last year I finally put one in the freezer. Keep your eyes open and you might come across something. Hope this helps--Ryan

I don't want to be the prototypical jerk recommending a top drawer product to someone just starting out, however, it worked for me and I'll have to pass it on. I would strongly recommend you find a good pro shop and take a look at a Mathew's MQ-32 or some of their newer offerings. I've never regretted the purchase one bit. Best of luck, Matt.

JK, you're in for a treat. Bowhunting is a serious rush. If you have a Mathews shop around there's a good chance they'll have a good used MQ 32, as Mathews has upgraded their line a bit. That would be the best possible purchase, in my opinion. These bows are superb.
