What do you fellas like? Not talking 3-D stuff.

I bought an inexpensive foam block from bass pro shops and it works just as good as my brother in laws expensive" Block" target more $$ is not always better!

I just run a bag target in the back yard, some bumblebee thing.
For broadheads I just go to the F&W area bow range and use the sand pits.
My buddy had a broadhead block target we shot for a few years. It lasted longer than I expected.

Foam layered block for most of the time, and whatever brand of foam block is on sale when I need to replace one.

If I know I'm going to shoot a bunch of field broadheads (Slick-Trick, Montecs, etc) for practice, I'll use a Reinhart blemished Rhino-block when the local archery dealer has one in stock.

Costs nothing but a few dollars for allrod and hardware. It can be made as large as you want for longer distance shooting.

For field points, a big bag full of packed rags. I tried wadded up shrink wrap but it sticks to the arrows too much. They're hard to clean off. I've used the same rags through several new covers. I cut a 6" hole in some cardboard for a template and use spray paint to make bulls.

The Block Black. I bought it because it was on sale. The first time I shot it I didn't like it. Now, I realize that this thing will last me years and years. It is the best target I have used.

Block black for me too. Best feature is easy arrow removal. It's gonna last a long time too, years!

The Reinhardt block is very tough to get the arrows out. Annoyingly so!
Everything else I have is 3D. I guess I have 7-8 now. the Glendel Buck is the only game in town! I painted it with high UV resistant paint and it's been outside for 8 years now still going strong. Just bought a new 4 side Insert last year.

Is the Block Vault the same as the Block Black target?

Do you buy the dock foam new? If so where do you get it?

No. It used and hauled away when owners put new under their docks.

Years ago (about 20 yrs)we had some given to us, but we ran out a couple of years ago and haven`t been able to find any more.

The Blue foam is the very best if/when you find some.

Anyone else at the point of preferring to wear out a target and replace it then to have to struggle to get arrows out?

I hate the targets that grab your arrows like they are gorilla glued in. I'm done with them. I will shoot a block or cube type target and replace them avery 12-18 months if needed.

I like the bag targets too, but I have had them pull the points and inserts right out of the shafts on a couple occasions. The threads or fibers of the stuffing will entangle with the points at times and require you to cut them out or struggle to extract them as well.

This certainly has to do with the old crap you stuff them with. I just seem to hit them in a way that caused this problem a few times. They are also not at all UV resistant. They will begin to fall apart after one summer. As well as get totally saturated with water when it's raining.

I like bag targets for field points and a chunk of foam from the local foam factory for broadheads. I just picked up McKenzie speed bag from Scheels for $20 the other day, prior to that I got a Duck Commander one from Walmart for $25. They are good for about a year, then I toss them and get another.

They look the same, maybe they changed the name from Black to Vault.

Rinehart Rhino Bag, no comparison to the other bag targets I have used as far as arrow removal. My 7 year old niece has no problem pulling out our arrows out.

Everything else I use is homemade bag target shaped like deer body or various 3D targets.

I was working on a job where they use 1 ton bags of food grade salt and the bags they use make a great target for field points



The shrink wrap they use does really stick, but if you just use the bags wadded up they are perfect.

Well just replaced the Block fusion as it's pretty much shot out,broadheads are hell on any target.I got a good 6 or more years out of the target so no complaints.
Unfortunately this model is no longer made so I got the Block Black.Seems to be basically the same target sans black instead of tan. Doing some last minute tweaking and ramping up the practice. Season opens tomorrow but I'm hanging back a couple weeks...I've learned a few things over the years 1st being hunt smart.I won't bugger up my sets before the big guys are moving and heading towards pre rut. Exception to this rule is if I have a buck patterned on an early season food source and without apples this year that's not the case.

I just started shooting a crossbow, and so far I"m getting away with shooting at the archery butts in our local park. I made up about a 5" thick stack of thick cardboard boxes broken down and taped together over that to help slow 'em down. My bolts penetrate the cardboard and the bale to the point the fletchings are about an inch out from the cardboard. I hang three paper plate targets on the cardboard stack and just carry it with me to the range. Works fine.

When my wife and I bought our crossbows, we took them to the archery range at my gun club. They have the huge, round excelsior (salt hay) butts that used to be the "gold standard" for field archery. Our arrows whistled through them like they weren't even there! Spent most of that afternoon searching for them.

I plan on making one of these soonish , shooting 150 & 200 grains single bevel broadheads into $140 gets expensive .
I'll just leave it at my lease and not worry about it.
