When you purchase wading boots that will be worn with neoprene foot waders what size would you order if you normally wear a size 11.5 boot?
I'm leaning towards a size 13.
Thanks!

WFR,

Sizes vary a little from manufacture to manufacture but the common thinking, and some manufacturers say if you are a half size order the next full size up. The manufacturers say there sizing has allowed for the neoprene boot so you should order your standard shoe size (except for the half size rule) but I have found boots to be a little tight when I have done that. I now upsize my boots, but I do like to wear heavy wool socks when I wade.

If I had a 11.5 shoe size I would also order a 13. I am a 10.5 and I purchase 12 boots.

All of that said, I would suggest you go to a Cabelas, Bass Pro, or you local fly shop and try on the brand you are looking at. Even if the exact boot is not available the sizing should hold true if you are trying on the same brand of boot you want to purchase.

Sound advice there.

I wear shoe size 12, and have played the mailorder wading shoe game a few times. Now I categorically opt for 13's and if they're still too big even with neoprene booties, I simply add a pair of wool sox to the mix.

A bigger complaint is having to maintain two different pairs- one for "rock snot" regulated states (Maryland) and a pair with felt soles for where I can legally wear them and not risk damaging my gimpy butt by slipping around on creek bottoms. Grrr.

Thanks guys!
I was asking because a guy was selling a like new pair of Korkers for $35. Said they were size 13.
I met him and they looked great.
Was puling hte money out to pay him, looked at the size and saw that they were 13 UK and 14 US.
Just too big even with neoprene waders and wool socks.
Disappointed as they were very nice.
I'll go hit Cabelas and look for something similar.
Thinking 13 is going to be the size though. I hate it when my feet are cramped.

No doubt the non-felt are not near as good with slippery rocks. I did put the studs that came with the Chotas I bought which are fine for most of our Md streams. Tempted to buy these for the big rivers http://www.patagonia.com/us/product/ultralight-river-crampons?p=79196-0 I've heard they're incredible.

Yeah, Pugs, I need to get a pair that'll
accept studs. So I guess I'll be delving into the size guessing game via mailorder, again. Probably if I just wore the felt soles and be done with it, and pay the occasional small fine (if caught) would be cheaper in the long run. Larry Hogan reduced our bridge tolls, maybe rescinding the felt sole ban is next? Ha ha ha....
