Acquired this Powell Tiboron fly rod from an estate. Gonna use it to toss big streamers in the surf. Is my understanding that the original Tiboron Series was the last rods to be made by the Powell family before Powell Rods was acquired by Charles Schawb and production moved to Asia correct? I always understood that the Asian made Powell Tiboron rods were labeled 'Tiboron II' but could be mistaken.

As far as I know, one of the best Powell experts is a guy by RMorrison on the classic fly rod (bamboo) forum and fiberglass flyrodders forums. He'd be the one I'd ask.

Sent an email to Rich at http://classicpowellrod.com/Home_Page.html and was told that the TiBoron rods were made after the Powell family lost control of their company.

This doesn't make me an expert but I grew up where the Powell family had their business and own a few of their glass and bamboo rods. As far as I know, the Tiboron post dates Pres's sale of the company to Schwab. Also, the Powell logo on the rod does not match the original company logos. Powell rods became just another rod after the company was sold and lost their lineage dating back to their years of production in Chico and Oroville by Pres, Walton and E.C.
