Looking for thoughts. I have a M77 mark II in 30-06. The throat is showing signs of erosion. I am thinking about going with a 280 AI barrel and putting a quality composite stock on it. Has anyone done a re barrel on a ruger ? And if so what brand barrel did you go with ? The reason I was thinking about going to 280AI is that I currently have 2 other tanger Rugers in 30-06.

I had my MKII 22-250 rebarreled to 22-250AI. The 'smith I used recommended a Hart barrel. I have no complaints, but this is my first rebarrel/semi custom gun.

Just rebarreled one with a Barrel from Douglas. Turn around time was 4 weeks... price was just under $400, with a blued barrel. Mine was chambered in 6 x 45.

have another that was rebarreled about 8 to 10 years ago...1 in 7 twist Stainless, 24 inch Predator contour, stainless..
was barreled in 243 from the Factory.. so I have a longer magazine that a 22.250 comes with. with 68 to 80 grain bullets it will reach WAAY out there...and is very flat shooting. 80 grain A Maxes at 3300 fps MV.

Buddy at work rebarreled a Mk II for me. Kreiger barrel eight inch twist, laminate factory stock. 260 Rem before and after. 3 moa before, .75 moa after.

If you don’t rebarrel what would you do with it. Barrels are consumables. I would definitely rebarrel if I were you. I’d go with any of the top rated barrel makers: Hart, Lilja, Krieger, Bartlein, rock, proof, etc… do it!

I bought a used early Ruger MKII (transition push feed model) in .30-06 and had it rebarelled in .35 Whelen. Shoots great and got a couple moose with it.

Ruger will replace that barrel for you with an excellent hammer forged one and price is reasonable.
Hart Barrels would be a good option in my opinion.

I put a xcaliber barrel on an early 90s 77 MK2. It was originally a 300 Winchester and I rechambered to a 7mm Remington Mag. I chose the 5R and am very happy with the results. The rifle shot very well with the factory barrel but due to a house fire and poor storage options the barrel rusted up bad and I chose to put a new barrel on it.
