Anything special about old-style Nosler Partitions, yellow box, lathe-turned jacket? They seem to bring more money at auction or on classified ad than same weight Partitions. Are they better performing bullets, (better than current-make Partitions) or is it a collector factor?

About what I figured.

I shot quite a few of them and still have a few in a couple different boxes. I really think they have much better quality control on the new ones. I haven't had a new one go scooting through with almost no expansion. I had a box of old ones in 257 that were like shooting solids in my 257 Roberts. While the old ones look cool, the new ones are better IMHO.

Over my 45+ years of reloading, I've shot several boxes of both styles. These are the good old days! The old partitions are less accurate and less likely to expand reliably. Both penetrate better than any other bullets I've shot, aside from solids.

Many years ago, when Nosler wasn't producing bullets in .375 caliber, I paid a king's ransom for some .375 300 gr old partitions on the used market, a box-and-a-half I believe. But within a couple years, Nosler reintroduced the 300 gr bullets in the new style. I shoot the new ones exclusively now.

Like Mark sez, they do be cool. Something about them old screw-turned Partitions..... But generally, accuracy is dicey--some shoot very well, many do not......

I still have a few boxes of the 160 gr 270's. They do have a nice look and are accurate as anything I have trialed. Never hunted with them as I was unable to get them up to a satisfactory velocity out my 270 Win.
My brother inherited a 270 Weatherby from up out of Texas last year. I think that might push them out just about right.

This what you talking about..I still use them..notice the 6.5/.264 139gr BOAT-TAIL PARTION !! Perfectly made for my .264 mag

I still have about 200 130 gr 270's and one 270 likes them so much,I just load them to hunt in that rifle.They shoot great and work fine on game.

I have used the old 270 gr Partition on Alaskan BB,and they worked well there,too.Some 180 gr 30's would look neat loaded in a 300 Weatherby,but have not gotten around to it.

The new ones are better bullets,tighter QC, etc., but I don't worry about using the old ones sometimes.
