Have some Nosler E Tip 150 Gr .308 that I want to work up loads
for in my 06. Most of my loads are 165 gr bullets with H 4350
Are the E Tip loads around 2 gr less than other comparable 150 Gr
bullets?
nosler says to start at the minimum and work up not exceeding the mid load
The mid load for Partitions and Accubonds will be max for the e-tips so start low and work up. They also recommend seating e-tips "deep" (~.050 - .100) off the lands. I'm still playing with some 180gr 06 loads, .010 off the lands gave me less than impressive results (~3" @ 100) so I just loaded some up .050 -.100 off the lands to try this weekend.

Stormin, I had really good results with the .308 180gr eTips out of my rifle (30-06 Stevens). I could cover all 5 shots with a quarter. I just checked my notes and I used 52grs of IMR4350 and seated the bullets at 3.250. I didn't chrono the load because at the time I didn't have my chronograph. I still have some of the 180's left just didn't get drawn for Elk around the Grand Canyon this year.

Hope this helps

Tried some loads today IMR 4350 55 -58 gr in 1 gr increments,
in accurate LH Win 70 06 Pac-Nor barrel groups from 4" to best of 2". Not impressed so far.

Just out of curiosity, what was your seating depth? Running .010 - .015 off the lands with 54gr H4350 180gr e-tip was my best group at ~3". Normally With 180gr partitions I can get 1" 3 shot groups with my Howa.

I'm not sure why I'm fooling with e-tips except they look like they will do a bit less meat damage than the partitions, and it was a long winter smile .

Why not try seating them out a bit, like the TSX's?

0.050" or more off the lands might be interesting...

Took 2 06,s working on bedding issues. The 06 that that I had set up OAL .01 short, was not shooting well with proven loads.
So shot the more accurate 06 with a longer throat. So all I can
say is it was greater than .10 off the lands. Have to many 06,s trying to find a general do all load that will work in all my 06,s. 57.5 Gr of IMR 4350 with 165 Hornady or 165 Nosler Part. seems to shoot from .75" to 1.5" in 4 06,s OAL seated & sized to the shortest chamber & throat. The funny thing is the Rem 760 pump action seems to be the least fussy and has consistent accuracy in about any load that you put in it!

Edited to .10 off the lands or greater. One full turn on seating die RCBS, which is around .10

The Nosler mid load data is the MAX load for the E-Tips.
Load them .100" off the lands.

I've got the 7/150 to try in my 7X57. Just need some range time now.

You'll have to let us know your range results.

Will do! I will be loading them tomorrow. Weather doesn't look to good for range time, but if it breaks, I am off to the range....
I tried a couple of new loads today at the range with 180gr e-tips in my old Howa 06.

54gr H4350 @ 3.250 COL (.105 off the lands) 2"-3" group crazy

54gr H4350 @ 3.300 COL (.055 off the lands) 1" 3 shot group at 100 and was in the money at 200yds and 300 yds (only 1 shot each because I only loaded 5 rnds at each COL)

The drop at 300 was 7 inches and almost no drift with a 10mph cross wind. I'm going to load some more to verify and use for spring bear if the second batch shoots this good. They look like they might do less meat damage than the partitions. grin

Interesting that accuracy was better with .055 off lands,
would be interested in what they chronographed at?
No chronograph, but someone on another posted quickload data that suggests 54.8 gr of H4350 is max @ 2778 fps with 180gr e-tip.

I'm guessing it's in the low 2700's, as long as it shoots I'm good with it smile.

Reshot loads in 2 diferent 06,s both seated .05 off lands
150 Nosler E tip

1. Win 70 22" 30-06 57 gr H 4350 3 shot @ 100 yds 1.28" 2950 fps

2. Ruger 77 22" 30-06 57 gr H 4350 3 shot @ 100 1.34" 2993-3007 fps

May try and fine tune with seating depth.

i found that slower powders helped with accuracy on the 180 etip. in my 300win mag i'm using H1000
