Anyone got a pet load for the 06 using 180gn (tsx) projectiles and if so what sort of velocity it produces?
Many thanks.....

R22 worked up to 61 grains has worked very well for me behind a variety of 180 bullets in 30_06.
58.0 Hunter or 57.0 H-4350 will do what you seek. In my rifle[Ruger #1B], fps is 2725-2775, depending on powder. Tom
mine likes 57.5 grains of h4350 at 2770 fps
A caseful, leveled off, of H4831; or more precisely 60.0 grains of H4831 has been a "standard" decent load for 180s in the '06 for a lot longer than anyone has even thought about using plain copper bullets.
My wifes '06 is shooting 180 TSXs in front of 59.0 gr H4831 and loves the load..Her rifle, like a few others, is sensitive to seating depth on the TSX, it shoots best seated farther from, rather than nearer to, the lands...go figure..
The load also works REALLY GOOD when it lands on something, which is pretty frequently with her...

It would be nice to find some H4831!!!!
Ahh yes...H4831...a distant and pleasant memory...

Powder so far isn't a problem, but primers, welllll that has been a problem. But getting back to the load, like I mentioned earlier, 180's using 57.0gr H-4350 or 58.0gr Hunter just plain works. Tom
I've had excellent results with 58 grains of Hunter as well. Loaded it under several makes and models of 180s.
57.5 grs. of H4350 gives me 2,734 fps from a 22" barrel with the 180 gr. bullet with excellent consistency and accuracy. Remington and Federal 180 gr. factory loads run about 2,640 - 2,660 fps from the same rifle. Not a startling difference in velocity, but my handloads are more consistent and accurate.
I have several loads that Fred Huntington and Jack O'Conner used back in the 50's & 60's. I myself never looked much further than the IMR-4831 or IMR-4350 powder, then there was also H-4350.
I'll look up the powder amounts for a 180 grain bullet tomorrow when I get to where my old journal is laying on the bench. I always favored the 165 grain bullet in the 30-06 for trajectory, velocity and plenty of penetraion on any deer.
h4350 and the 180 tsx shoot in my 06.
