I have my first Elk hunt scheduled this fall and intend to use 150 gr Nosler Partitions.

Can anyone suggest some good loads? I usually use H4831 with my 130's.

Should be pretty straight forward. I use 56.0gr. H4831SC in either a Fed 210 or WLR for the 150gr. Partition. Chrony shows 2750fps pretty consistently.
Also "work up" a new load combo. Good luck.

How's your accuracy with partitions?

Some rifles will take up to 58.0 grains of H4841SC. 56.0 is generally a pretty mild load.

In general of the load isn't exceeding 2900 in a 22" barrel (or a little more in a 24") then you are OK.

57-58 grains with a 150 (whether a Partition or whatever) is generally one of the most accurate loads in most .270's. If it won't group into an inch or better at 100 yards then something is wrong with the rifle, or your handloads.

And in any case, even 1.5" groups are plenty accurate enough for elk out to 450 yards.

I've only loaded BTs and Sierra GKs in this rifle. Both shoot inside an inch and it's a CZ 550 so the barrel is right at 24".

I just happen to have a box of 150 gr Partitions that were given to me so I thought I'd use them.

I have (2) 270's, a Remington & a Colt. Both shoot the 150 gr Partition very well, and as mentioned, 56 gr of 4831SC, makes for a pretty timid load in both of my rifles.
Particularly if you have once fired cases, from your rifle, you should be able to get better performance.

58.5-59.5 grains of RL-22 or Norma MRP, depending on the gun..........start at 56 or so & work up.

Those loads are max is the several 270 I've used it in.

Velocity is usually 2950-2975.

I will echo what Mule Deer said on H-4831. 56-58 gr of H4831 & various 150 gr bullets has been the most consistenly accurate .270 load for me across several .270s. You can get a bit more velocity out of some other powders, but 4831 is temp insenstive and very consistent in my experience.

My "go to" load for my pre-64, .270 Win. is 57.0 grs. of Rldr-22 along with a 150 gr. Partition. Shoots under an inch all day & gives me 2930 fps as measured from the chrono. This powder charge is 1 gr. under max. from what I've seen in the books. Good luck. BTW, I always hunt with cases that have been fired at least once. I then PFLR and always check for proper chambering before going on a hunt. Never had a problem.

I checked my Nosler book (5th edition) and they max the load out at 55 gr H4831 listing 2905 fps. That is well below what folks here are saying. I don't have the Nosler 6th ed yet. Any other manuals have better info?

One thing that bugs me about Nosler's book is it doesn't give OAL for each load just the max SAAMI length..

I shot some 150 Interlocks and H4831sc yesterday. Worked up to 58 grains and topped out around 2900fps(22"). I think Nosler lists 55 grains as max in #6 also.

I get great accuracy with RL19 and 150gr NPs. The load isn't the fastest (2750fps) but it sure makes nice little bug holes.

I've worked up to 58grns in some rifles with h4831. R22 or H4831 would be my top picks.

IMR 4831 aint bad either, right around 54 grains makes mine tick in Norma cases.

Shot very well indeed!!! and I thought these bullets were only supposed to be mediocre in the accuracy dept!

In my m70 a book max charge of Magpro with a speer 150g hc is sub 1 inch at 3,000fps.

RL26 is the new winner here. See Alliant data. Their max loads are accurate in my rifles.
