Hi, I needs some help if possible.

I'm currently looking at loading up 260gr Nosler AccuBonds for my .375 H&H. Is this a suitable bullet for Elk at lengthy distances i.e. 300, 400 yards? Do I need to run the H&H load fairly hot to get adequate expansion?

Any load suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Absolutely! It would work great!
Try some RL -15 Win 760, H414, H4350.

Ditto on the RL-15. Mine likes it with the Sierra 250 gr BTSP.

..........Although a 375 Ruger owner, we do shoot the same bullets. At 300 to 400 yards, not a problem at all. From a 375, the 260 A/B is a very good long ranged flyer, very suitable for elk, with about the same trajectory as the 180 gr 30-06.

In my Lyman manual, 2700 to 2800+ fps is easily achieved from a 24" tubed 375 H&H. A 260 gr A/B moving at those speeds won`t have a problem on elk at 300-400 yards. RL15 per Lyman, offers the best velocity.

Wonderful slug for the app, I'd try R15, H4350 and R17 in it.

Sako85Bay...............That depends on your rifle. My Lyman manual doesn`t list H-4350, but does show the highest velocity of 2825 fps using 75.0 gr RL15 along with the 260 gr Nosler Partition.

In my Sierra manual (no H-4350), RL15 also lists amongst the highest velocities at 2850 fps using 72.2 gr with the 250 gr Gameking.

For your 375 H&H, using bullet weights of 250 to 260 grains, RL15 has perhaps the best burn range for the best velocity.

I use only 2 powders for my 375 Ruger; RL15 and H-4350.

For some H-4350 data, go to the Hodgdon site. But you will be well served with the RL15.

Here's what i've try with succes.
rifle: TC Prohunter 28 inch barrel.
W-760 82.0gr / 260 NAB = 2800 fps, very accurate.
H-4350 83.0gr / 260 NAB = 2847 fps, Accurate
IMR-4350 78.0gr / 270gr SPBT = 2623 fps = Accurate ( max 83.0gr )
This one i'll try it next week ( 83.0gr )

I have kill one big black bear last spring with the W-760/260 NAB, at 400 feet.
Incredible, he just fall like a rock.

a great elk bullet , IME , and up close too .

If wanting to push towards 2800 fps , my rifles favored H4350 over RL 15......

Mine really likes RL15 wi that bullet and others. 1/2 in. groups. Took that combo to Africa worked great. Should be really good elk medicine.

What species did you take with this combination? Any long shots amongst these?

I have used the 260 AB to take two large bull elk as well as kudu, oryx, waterbuck and impala in Namibia. Worked well on all of them, One of the bull elk stood on shaking legs long enough to take a second shot, but everything else was a one-shot kill. Only the kudu went any distance (about 50 yds), but he was looking right at me when I shot and his adrenaline was probably already flowing...

Zebra Wildebeast etc. longest shot +- 250. Excellent results. They were started at 2750fps.

3 shot group: 0.765 inch at 100yrd.

That was a good read and extroadinary results with both the AccuBond and Partition. Strangely, I thought it would be the Partition and not the AccuBond which would have shed more of its weight.

I've got to get busy loading some of these 260gr AB's - the only question is whether I can get that sort of velocity (+2,700 fps) out of my .375 H&H set-up.

This bullet works well in the 375 JDJ too!
I use AA 2520 powder in a 14" barrel.

The accubond just plain works man look at this!

I shot a small moose last yr with 260gr ABs from a 375 Chatfield Taylor. Range was about 100yds.
