I have been looking for good info on the regular (non-improved) .338 Edge. I made a deal a couple of years ago for three Remington 700 LH LSS's in .338 RUM; two to rebarrel to Bryce Towsley's .358 & .416 UMT. That's leaves one to play with, since I already had a .338 RUM from when they came out. I thought it might be interested in reaming the Ultra Mag into an Edge chamber. If you have any info, please let me know. Good shooting, Marcus.
look high ditch or whatever your name is im new to this long range shooting and now that i bought the gun it probably doesnt need to be improved but i got a good deal on it and im trying to make it shoot so keep your smartass comments to yourself, i suppose that your first gun you started reloading for just shot magical one shot groups the first time you pulled the trigger! LOL
I checked on my Load Data account, no .338 Edge or AI version, I also looked on Dave's Loading pages - nothing. I checked Rifle info - nothing again. I would suggest if the .338 Edge is a .338 RUM reamed out, like I think it is just start with .338 RUM data and work up and watch for pressure signs. Or if you know which gunsmith or gunsmithing company that does this job, get on their web site and see what's there. Good shooting, Marcus.
chokestick, chill out. highridge1 was just making the same comment that most of us probably thought when we saw the thread title. If you can't handle a little smart aleck commenting you're probably on the wrong forum. I wish I had some data for you, but I don't have any. Good luck with the new gun and reloading ventures! Oh yeah, and welcome to the 'fire!
wow ,just messin with you chokestick, who pissed in your cheerios? The 338 edge is a superb round it simply doesn't need to be AI to shoot accurate. A good friend of mine just shot a 2 inch 5- shot group at 600 yrds with his edge.
No, look in about any reloading manual for a cartridge drawing of either. The 300 RUM has the shoulder moved farther forward, about 1/8" IIRC. Necking up the 300RUM does provide an increase in powder capacity... If its really needed is a whole nuther topic.
I been toying with the idea of building a big 338 on a bull barreled Micky A5'd 700 magnum action just to shut up a guy I know with a 338 Lapua.
The big 338's are actually oobercannons that I think have some use. Look at what guys are doing with the 338 Lapua in UKD "tactical" matches if you don't believe me
The 338 ultra is a awesome round,so close to the edge that to me the edge has no advantage. With different barrels specs they often even run the same velocity or one or the other faster. My 338 ultra will run 225 gr accubonds to 3270 fps and very accurately.
What you are looking at is the 338 O'Brien. My gunsmith has built a few of them, including one for a friend of mine. 250 gr PT with 103 grs H1000 = 3250 fps. I have a few dummy rounds as I am considering one once my 338 RUM barrel goes south.

DUDE!!! Either you're running one hell of a muzzle brake, have a heavy (chunk) rifle, or you may want to start saving for a retina re-attachment surgery.
If you're really concerned about wearing out a tube on a 338 RUM with no brake and its under 9 Lbs, these are for you.
My 338 RUM load is Retumbo 98.6 grs- 250 gr PT 3024 fps 250 gr AB 2960 fps My 338 RUM is a stock M700 LSS with a Pachmayr Decelerator pad, no brake or porting.
Here is a pic of the big 338's. 338 RUM (l), 338 Edge (c), 338 O'Brien(r).
I just could not justify going 338 edge, the 338 ultra will do anything the edge will do. You can run a 300 gr at 2800 fps in a 338 ultra. Then just buy 338 ultra brass...
