How do they compare?

While we're at it, how about the SST compared to others?

The sst is pretty darn explosive. It will leave large large holes in deer at 100 yds even when started out of guns as slow as 2700 muzzle velocity. I think they are even more explosive than nosler ballistic tips.
The ttsx and gmx are much tougher and will retain most of their wt even when started at 3200-3300. I have been able to get ttsx's to shoot in almost any gun I've tried them in. My only experience with the gmx was in .30 cal with the 165 wt. I was not able to get this bullet to shoot well in any gun I own. I do see some have had some luck....me not so much.

kraky111,
Not sure what caliber you're shooting, but out of my Ruger MK2 30-06,the GMX 165's are working WELL!
Powder is 59.5 Hunter.
But, I do like those TSX's in two other rifles: 25-06[115's],and 270 Win[150's]. Very accurate, and so far, antelope and mulies don't like 'em!
I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

Recently picked up some GMX's to try in my 270 and was very impressed with the accuracy. They far exceeded the 130 Partitions and were a fare bit better than the Hornady 140's I'd already put to paper. Can't say what they'll do to a deer yet but intend to give them a go this season.
The TSX's have a strong following here but they have proven to be awfully persnickety in my 25-06 Cooper- YMMV...

They should work well as do the Nosler lead frees as they are both just Barnes knockoffs with a slightly different metal compound. We've been shooting Xs, TSXs, MRXs and TTSXs ever since they were invented. Everything shot with them dies ..... dead is dead.

most Barnes "experts" have never shot them. We have a few (ten more now as the TTSX line has grown)

Every rifle / load is going to differ. My 06 likes Barnes 130gr TTSX slightly more than 150gr GMX. I'm sure if I played more with the charge and some other factors, I could get just as much accuracy. It also loves 180gr Nosler eTips. All that is required now is a Bull Elk tag. ;-)

Tell me how many of either you have on the shelf or have taken game with? Do I hear ZERO?

Here's a picture of about 85% of the Barnes X, TSX, MRX and TTSXs I have on my loading bench. All but the 400 gr .411 X have taken game (hoarding them as no longer made), all have been shot on paper at least 100 times each, the WORST any will group (old X 180 .308) is 1.5 MOA which will kill anything I care to shoot at within my ethical envelope.

Two Antelope and one Mulie this past season with the 130 TTSX from the "totally obsolete" (LAFFIN) 300 Savage 99R.

BTW, virtual does not mean exact in this context. Musta missed that in your GED.

What, no XLCs? How can you be a Barnes expert without shooting XLCs? Also, what about originals and solids too? laugh!
Posted By: BossLady Re: Hornady GMX vs Barnes TSX - 09/17/10
As for the picture ..... might be cause we're married (DUH)
XLCs shared the same issues as the current combined technology Winchesters and IF you ever pulled either from a loaded round you would know the problem. As you have obviously not, I won't take away the surprise.
Originals are great bullets but we use Woodleighs (same idea).
Solids are not really need for game around here although on some thick heads they might be appropriate.
Now for those who added nothing, you are now only talking to one another .... so enjoy.
