Anyone try this? What loads what velocity and accuracy?
Thank you!
I worked up a load last year for my 264 using the 120 ttsx and Ramshot magnum powder. I started with 65 gr and worked up to 68 gr, according to Barnes 69 gr is max. average velocity in my rifle was 3268, extreme spread was 25 and standard deviation was 11. My 264 was never a tack driver, untill I worked up this load my best groups were around 1 1/2 inch, this load produces 1 1/16 inch groups, this is about the best that my rifle can do, I plan on using this load for a future Wyoming antelope hunt, the 264 is probably the best long range antelope cartridge ever developed.Ramshot magnum is a slow ball powder and a hot primer is required, I used winchester magnum primers and winchester cases to develop this load. There are other powders that work well also, IMR 4831, H 4831, RL 22 and 25 come to mind, I tried H 4831 and IMR 4831 but they would not deliver the velocity that Ramshot magnum produces. Good luck, if you need any additonal information send me a private message.
cool
i've used the 120 TSX over 7828 to get 3250. didn't shoot as well as i like but was still around and inch and a quarter. Took a smallish bear at 325 with it. Worked just fine!
Hodgdon online reload chart has 120gr SPR SP at 3299fps with 70.5gr Retumbo. But I have never loaded 120gr bullets because I have stayed with what has always worked well for me 85gr, 95gr and 100gr bullets.

You use those light bullets for big game?
I'm in the process of working up a load for the 130gr TSX for mine. I use mine for elk mostly and like the extra 10grs of bullet. But now I own a 35 Whelen along with it and I got to work something up for it as well. I guess a man's work is never done....
Yup...never done
The 100gr for deer and elk. The 85 gr HP hits hard at 100 yrds at 3800 +fps will almost break through 2" boiler plate free hanging on a chain at 100yrds.

I did a little load work with the 120 TSX and 7828 last summer. I worked up to 66 grains of 7828 which produced 3250 FPS. It was a new barrel and it didn't shoot real good. I have been shooting Sierra 120's to break it in and it seems to be doing better. I recently bought a box each of the 100 TTSX and 120 TTSX and am about to start load work with the copper slugs again.

264wm, what 100 grain bullet are you using and what powder has worked for you?
I am using H4831 with 100gr sierra verminter HP and nosler 100gr balistic tip started at 67gr's and worked to 72gr's seem to be accurate. Less than inch group at 139 yards with a cross wind gusting to 40mph. 95gr vmax did the same with same powder and loads, you will be happy with the 100gr bullets they hit hard and shoot flat.
What speed are you getting with the 100 graners?
I am guessing 3600-3700 fps???????????
Hodgdon publishes 3680fps with 71gr H4831 for the 100gr Hornady SP. They don't say what barrel length they used. If they used a 26" barrel I should be gaining 100fps with my 30" barrel and 150fps if they used a 24" barrel. I hope to get a chrono soon so I can know for sure I think I am pulling around 3900+ with the 85gr Sierra verminter HP.
I did some research and found a trajectory calculator on the norma bullets web site and by pluging in the 100g HP at 3780fps and 0 at 260yrds it is +1.9 inches high at the highest point and -1.9 inches at 300 yrds that is as flat as it gets if there numbers are right. Very interesting stuff.
When the 264 was introduced the 100 gr winchester loading was considered the flattest shooting factory load next to the 220 swift.

the problem with the light bullets, is that the heavy ones will overtake them somewhere around 300 yards. i run 142 SMKs for paper/steel, and 130 SSII or 130 TSX for hunting, all over 7828. i'm running two Lilja barrels and a Brux, all 1-8" and all 26". the 142 SMK will get from 100 to 1K with 20moa...
Hi toad I guess I just love the speed. Fast cars and fast bullets. The 100gr sierra HP took a Mountian Goat at 600+ yrds, I sat and coached my brother inlaw on where to aim and 1st shot broke his back, second shot took out the lungs. He was a billy with 10 1/2" horns. He was so far away that his horns looked like black dots on his head with my scope set on 18 power. It took my brother inlaw over a hour to hike to the bottem then up the other side. A packer took us 18 miles into the Pasayten wilderness on horses and left us for a week. He shot the goat the first day.

sounds like a helluva time on that hunt. sounds like a nice goat too.

but it pays to give a thunk to BC when you stretch it out. go over to JBM Ballistics and punch in different bullets and see what happens to drop/drift at a distance. you'll be surprised.

That was one great hunt we had a week to enjoy and explore after he took the goat which was the only goat we saw. I did not have a goat tag so I was there for support, you know I was the pack mule. I had a deer tag but the early high hunt ended the second day. The packer shot a bear on the way out after dropping us off. I,ll never forget when he was saddle sore and was leeding the horse which spooked and got away a bucking and string his gear all over the mountian top he finally stopped at the edge of a 100 ft cliff looking down as we were all yelling jump, I guess he was to smart to jump. That was in the 70's and there is probably gear still there. LOL. i do understand the drop and drift of the lighter bullets and I do carry a few 140 gr partitions a friend loaded just in case. Its nice to use the ballist calulators to come up with the best sight in range to get the flatest trajectory for a given bullet at a given velocity.
Anybody shooting 130 Sciroccos in a .264 WM?

i am shooting the Swift Scirocco II bulets in my Brux barreled .264.

130 SSII over 66 gr 7828 @ 3.4" COAL for ~3250 fps from 26" barrel.

this load shoots great for me. haven't kilt nothing with it, as i hunted my .375 last fall, but i have no worries...
Thanks Toad. Have you shot 'em enough to have an opinion on whether the .570 BC is accurate? Seems like a heckuva combination. What's your twist rate?
Posted By: toad Re: 264 Win mag and the 120 TTSX? - 05/15/11
the ballistics programs get me pretty close, so i'd say either the advertised BC is accurate or the ballistics programs use corrected values.

i run 1-8" twist in .264 bore, including this one.
Mighty tempting........
That is a interesting bullet I should get close to 100fps more with my 30" Shilen barrel with 1 in 8" twist. Have you tried it at long range? Keep me posted on it.
I am doing over 3300 with the 130gr AB and RL22. I would give it a good try in the 264, especially with the 120's. Might be a stellar performer. Scotty
Has anyone tried this Sierra bullet in the 264WM at higher fps?

.264 dia. (6.5mm) 123 gr.
HPBT Match .264 123 gr. SD .252
.510 BC @ 1,635 fps and above
.477 BC between 1,635 and 1,400 fps
.450 BC between 1,400 and 1,250 fps
.420 BC @ 1,250 fps and below
