I'm thinking of trying a new bullet for my Winchester Fwt. In 7x57 caliber. I would like to try either of the Barnes TSX or TTSX in the 120 gr bullet...
My rifle will shoot the old Barnes 100gr X bullet in to 3/4" @ 100 yards, but it really fouls the barrel bad.
I'm thinking the new Barnes 120 TTSX bullet just might be the perfect 7x57 load for big N. Texas Whitetails, hogs, & the occasional Mule Deer.
If anyone has any experience with this Barnes 120gr in the 7x57, I would really appreiciate any advise & load data ! I all ready have a 280 for those of you who recommend it over the 7x57 & yes it works really well. But I love my Model 70 Featherweight in 7x57 & it is probably my favorite deer rifle! Thanks for any helpfull advice y'all can provide me with...
I'd be interested in what you cone up with. I've also got a Featherweight 7x57 and would like to try TTSX. I use 140 Partitions with IMR 4831 now.

I love mine as well. I just bought some 120 and 140 gr. TSX bullets for mine so I'll be followig tis thread. I'm thinking I'll be using W760 as it shows decent velocity in the Barnes manual and has worked really well regarding accuracy and velocity with other bullets I've tried.

If you rifle shoots the regular X Bullet it should like the TXS because they usually out group the regular Barnes X Bullets. I use the Sierra 160 gr BTHP and Hod 4831SC in my 7x57 for deer.
I know it is not the TTSX but I wanted a light bullet load for my 7x57 and chose the GS Custon 120gn bullet. Over 51gn BL-C2 I get 3235fps and outstanding accuracy. Usually stick to the 160gn Woodleigh or a 160gn cast but the GS bullet is devestating on game without being destructive of retreivable meat.

I run the 120 TSX in my M-77 MK II 7x57 with H-414.
It has accounted for a truckload of Whitetails,Hogs,and Coyotes.
Never needed more than one round.My load is not max,very easy on the shoulder,and just plain works.

Same one IIRC that got me started on Barnes TSX by giving me a box of 160 grainers for my 7x57...which quickly became the " go to" bullet....
I loaded up to 53gn of H 414 with the 120gn TTSX in my new Featherweight Super Grade in 7x57 and yielded 3054fps with an extreme spread of 14fps and .630 MOA.
Will shoot some more to verify consistency.

I still have some of the bullets left and maybe will try them with one of the newer powders. I've had some great results with Re17 and various weight bullets in the 7x57 so maybe it's time to take another look see.

Man that is a head scratcher. I've shot tons of TSX and TTSX in everything from 223 to 375 (but no 7mm) and the only one I was disappointed with accuracywise was the 250gr 375. Could never get it to group better than about 1 1/2 MOA.
The TSX and TTSX have shot great in about 8 or 9 different cals for me. They kill fantastic as well.
Seating depth can be critical. Some rifles will handle them with accuracy at any reasonable depth while another may require a very specific depth. Try different depths plus powders. Generally faster powders like Win 760/ H-414 work well. Some years back I took a decent elk with my 7x57 using the Barnes 140 TSX. Complete pass thru at about 150 yds. Last few years have been using the 6.5 120gr TSX with complete success. They work well beyond their weight . Require a complete new understanding as compared to lead core bullets.
