thinking of trying 160 grain loads in my 7mm-08 Abolt as a deer and elk load and was wondering if any one had any experience with heavier bullets in a 7mm-08 they would share . what kind of velocities could I expect ? also was thinking at the lower velocities a standard bullet like a speer or sierra would work fine . thinking h4350 ,rl19 or ramshot hunter would give highest velocites
Should get into the 25s, how far dependent on barrel length. Good powder estimates IME.
I'm loading 162 amax with 47.2 grs H4350, win brass, cci 200 primers. Getting 2750 avg with 24" barrel. So this should get you close but you need to work up to it carefully, its about max charge.
R17 does very well (from 110's to 175's)in my 788

I have ran 48 grns h4350 behind 150 grains before for around 2800 fps was hoping to get to around 2650 or 2700 using h4350 or rl19 if not rl17 or maybe ramshot hunter . how about winchester brass instead of the remington ?
Perhaps my speeds are a bit conservative. Keep in mind I run Remington rifles in this caliber, however, and I can't be pounding my bolts open. laugh

Youll probably get your best velocity with up to 42grs PP2000MR and a 162 SP or SST, or the AMAX, my best accuracy came with 41grs with the 162AMAX, that being said, I had a couple 162SPs laying around and thought to myself I should load these 2 up and see what I get at 300yds, not to mention I wanted to see how it would all work fireforming some Fed 308 brass to 708 brass. So I loaded up 44grs of H4350 and shot at 300yds, those 2 shots were pretty close, closer than I thought theyd be, so id try H4350 & 2000MR. Work up of course. oh, almost forgot, youll be pushing over 2700 with 2000MR and a bit more than 2600 with H4350. I use nothing but Rem brass, but Win is good brass, too.
I shoot 160 Partitions in my Savage 7mm-08. I tried severl powders and Ramshot Hunter delivered the highest velocity and best accuracy. R-17 comes in a very close second.
