How does Varget do in the 06? I know people praise it in the 308 winchester but how about 30.06 with 165 or 168's?
It's a little bit on the fast side for most 30-06 applications. It can work, but not as well as other alternatives.

I agree! Varget is a great powder, but slower burn rate powders will work a lot better in the '06.
Thanks, I have H414, Reloader 22, and H4831SC so hopefully one of these powders will work. I may have to pick up some 4350.
I have used Varget with 168gr in the 30-06 as an accuracy/control load.
It does not provide the advertised velocities for me, but that is probably just my rifle.
Of the powders you have on hand I would start with H414 because it is in a pretty good burning rate range for the bullet weights you mentioned.
I really like Varget with 130/150 grain TSX/TTSX bullets in my 30-06s Out of the ten or so I have loaded for it gives good velocity and outstanding accuracy.
I have yet to find what a 130 grain Barnes wouldn't be good for coming out of a 30-06 at 3150-3200 FPS.

Ditto and for heavier 165-180 the H4350 and RL22 should do better.
I also like Varget and IMR-4064 for bullets weighing 150 gr and less in the .30-06. Good velocity and great accuracy.
