Are these meant for hunting like the hunting VLd's? Interested in the 230 308 berger for my 30-378.

Do they perform well on game? Any pictures experiences???????????????
Berger told me they might work well on big game but were not designated as a hunting bullet....I'll wait for more testing!

Have heard they are not as fussy as VLD's in the seating department...I could like that!
There have been reports on LRH with great results using the .338 300 gr hybrid and the .308 230 gr hybrid.

The hybrids are built with heavier bearing surface jackets like the VLD target versions. The nose section of the target VLD is the same thickness as the hunting VLDs. I have read of guys preferring the way the target VLDs perform over the more explosive hunting VLDs.

Go here to read about the performance of the heavy hybrids:

If you can wait Berger says they will be making hunting hybrids in the near future.
It would nice to see them sooner than later.. smile
Why not buy a box, shoot a few deer, and see for yourself?.....................
Just came across a jacket thickness comparison of the 210 hunting VLD and new 230 gr target hybrid on LRH.
Thanks Tumbleweed:

"OK boys here it is!! Got my 230 Match Hybrid Target bullets today. I split the jacket off of one of the 230's and one off of my 210 hunting VLD with a dremel tool. I carefully cleaned up the sharp edges with emery cloth when done as to get accurate measurements. On each jacket (230 and 210) I measured in five places starting at the base and going to the middle of the ogive recording all measurements. I repeated this process once so as to average my findings. Talk about excited, here is what I found!

Berger 230 Match Hybrid Target average jacket thickness: .023"

Berger 210 Match Hunting VLD average jacket thickness: .022"

Metplant Diameter (As accurately as I could measure):
210 Hunting VLD: .070"
230 Hybrid Target: .070"

Might we expect to see VLD like performance on game? I don't know, but I'm going to find out next season!!
The 230 is on top, the 210VLD on the bottom.

Notice the blunt nose on the lead portion of the 230, this might actually work better to open on game?"

It would be interesting to find out about other caliber jacket thicknesses.
Azshooter, very nice work. Thanks for sharing the photos. Please post your results on game.

Not in a big hurry to switch as the 185's are working great, less finicky seating depth would be a nice improvement..
