Just picked up a can at a good deal and looking for load suggestions ? Any one have loads to share ? The sierra 140 load data looks ok for the 7mm-08 , how about the 308 ? 150's or would it be more suited for heavier weights ?
4895 is very flexible. broad range of applications in either cartridge.

It is also the perfect powder for M-1 150 gr loads as that is what is was invented for.

Check the Hodgdon reloading website:

While it does not run through a measure as well as ball powders, it's hard to go wrong with 4895.

"Missboy" is the latest nom de guerre of Larry Root, aka Oldman1942, Framis, whiteeyes, pipercolt, redwolves, Boss_Lady, mtdorarider, rootmanslim, etc.

Go away schit stain
IMR4895 is a perfect match for the .308 and 150 grain bullets. If somewhere between 44 to 46 grains doesn't shoot straight something is wrong with the rifle. It should give right around 2800 fps from a 22" barrel.

Do start lower, though. The Sierra manual tops out at 43.7 grains, Nosler at 44.5, Speer at 45 and Hornady at just over 46. I've run 46 grains with a Hornady 150 SP for years in three different Remington .308's with no problems and great accuracy.
It's old school, but a great 308 powder. It would be a surprise not to find great accuracy with 165/168 grain bullets in a neighborhood of 2600 fps.
I've never owned a .308 but H4895 is my go to powder for the 7-08.

I guess Rick switched "Missboy" back to the original "Oldman1942". As Larry's aliases are uncovered, they revert back to the original.

His compulsions won't let him not hack and play... crazy
