Hi guys,

I just acquired some reloader 33 powder and want to work up a new elk load for my 300RUM. The problem is that I can't seem to find load data anywhere for this one. Any suggestions?

thanks!

I'm in the same boat !

I have tried it in the following: 300 RUM, 6mm-284, 7 rem mag, 7mm/375 Ruger, 257 Roy.

First I did comparisons of the listed load data and other powders for the same cartridges. Came to the conclusion that it is slower than Retumbo.

The first few of the above cartridges I worked with started with mid range Retumbo loads and worked up. That will definitely be safe.

Later on I realized you can start close to the max listed load of Retumbo.

My conclusion: RL-33 is works best with the heaviest bullets for caliber.

Current load with 300 RUM:

230 gr Berger 100 gr of RL-33 2975 fps from 24" barrel.(worked up to 102, accuracy fell off)

Thanks AZshooter. I'll start from there and see how it goes. I usually shoot a 180g TTSX or 190g LRX, so I'll see how it works out and post an update.

On the burn chart I have, RL-25 is one the same line as Retumbo.

How much slower is RL-33 than RL-25?

Have no precise way to know the exact placement of RL-33 on the burn rate chart. I can say with confidence it is slower than Retumbo.

Compare the load data that Alliant has posted against other powders:

7mm stw 175 gr speer deep curl, 84.5 gr RL 33 @ 2946 fps
7mm stw 175 speer hpbt, 85.7 gr RL 33 @ 3033 fps
300 wby 220 gr sierra mk , 89 gr RL 33 @ 2865 fps
300 wby 200 gr partition89.1 gr RL-33 @2889
338 Lapua 250 gr sierra mk, 103.5 gr RL 33 @ 3001
338 Lapua 300 gr Sierra MK 97.5 gr RL 33 @ 2748 fps
7MM rem mag 175 speer sp 75.2 gr RL 33 @ 2909 fps
300 win mag 220 sierra mk, 79.6 gr RL 33 @ 2780 fps

I would stick with your 300 win mag, it is as good or better than the other and sounds like it is already proven to be good from what you say about it being one to take for elk.

Yep. Used Retumbo data for RL 33 in the .264 WM. Its burn rate is more like H-870
