My good friend Gunner500 gave me a good load for 215gr Woodleighs using RL-15 (42gr), I'm getting right around 2230 fps and good accuracy. I've also developed a good load with 150gr Hornadys and 44gr of same for 2650 fps.

Anyone one else have some good loads they would like to share I'd appreciate it. jorge

Here are some of the loads I published in a HANDLOADER article on the .303. The last number is the 100-yard group size:

Lee-Enfield Mark 4, No. 1 (24.75-inch barrel):

174 Sierra MatchKing Varget-42.0 2495 1.72
180 Sierra ProHunter N540-44.0 2604 1.62
180 Nosler Partition Varget-41.0 2456 2.51

Ruger No. 1A (22-inch barrel):

125 Sierra ProHunter A2015-44.0 2899 1.51
150 Sierra ProHunter Varget-46.0 2702 .97
150 Barnes TSX Big Game-50.0 2693 .94
180 Nosler Partition H4350-50.0 2604 1.28
180 Sierra Prohunter H4350-48.0 2449 .79
220 Nosler Partition Varget-40.0 2170 1.97

Some of the bullets are .30 caliber, and still shot quite well, as they do in many .303's. Oddly enough, the Ruger No. 1 had a larger bore than the Lee-Enfield. The Enfield's groups were all shot with its aperture sights, while I used a 3x Leupold on the Ruger.

Hi jorge

Although I do not currently have a .303 British, I learned how to cast bullets and load them for this calibre -- an older gentleman saw my interest as a young teenager and took me under his wing.

I forget the maker of the bullet mold now, but it was a 215gr bore-rider.

I forget the "full house" loads, but mostly we loaded the 215gr lead slugs over 13gr of Red Dot (no filler) and a magnum primer. Recoil was light, and I imagine velocity might be 1400fps.

Accuracy was very good, and as long as one used a magnum primer, was not sensitive to the position of the powder.

If you don't have a plinker load, give this one a try! I loaded hundreds of them to practice rapid fire -- and (as the Germans among others found out) the Lee-Enfield's bolt handle position does sure lend itself to rapid fire.

Cheers, and thanks for bringing back some decades-old memories for me!

Thanks guys. John the rifle I have is a Winchester Model 1895 with a 27.5" barrel. Sweet rifle (I posted pictures here a while ago). Only problem I'm having is it shoots WAY HIGH (like 8"@50yds). I have the sight all the way down, and I'm reticent to file that neat copper fron blade so I guess I can deepen the notch on the rear sight.

You wouldn't want to file the front anyway. That would make it shoot even higher.

I like 48 grns of H414 with Rem 150's and Fed 210 in my No. 5 Jungle Carbine.

Sorry, I meant lowering the rear sight. I'll have to file a deeper notch
