I have a number of different powders, in differing quantities on my reloading bench. I just acquired a new Remington 700 CDL in .257 Weatherby and would like to get it to shoot the Swift bullets. If they don't work I will probably move to 110 gr. Accubonds. Out of the powders listed, which one would you start with...in hopes that it ended there?

If your first choice doesn't work out, what would be your second choice?

My best .257 Wby. load was with 115 gr. VLD's, 71.2 RL-25 at 3.360" COAL. I had one three shot group of .398". Also had a three shot group of .736", same load, with 3.250" COAL. The longer COAL seemed to work better.

I don't think 110 gr. SSII or NAB loads would be much different. SSII's are generally more finicky regarding COAL than NAB's. More like VLD's, IME.

The slowest powders seem to work best and of the ones you list, I'd try RL-25 and H-1000. Retumbo and Magnum are pretty close.

I just picked up a can of RL-33 and if I still had the .257 Wby, would be trying that one, too. Not much data on RL-33.

H1000 And R25 Worked The Best For Me.

IMR7828 and RL22 is where I would start.

I used R22,R25, & 7828 in mine All gave good results but in my rifle 25 gave the best accuracy with all bullet wts. and the best velocity. That said my barrel was completely burned out in 1100 rounds...and I mean completly burned.

No one said those screaming Wby's aren't barrel burners...

Hunters generally don't shoot enough, like the target folks, for that to be a big deal. But, it is the cost of doing business...

I have a .240 Wby showing throat erosion and it's not that old a gun.
