I want to load some plinking loads for my .35 Whelen using .357 pistol bullets. Where can I find data for type of powder and charge weight?
These two loads shoot reasonably well in my rifle:
Speer 140 JHP/ 47.0-IMR4895/ 2097 fps
158 SWC cast/ 10.0-Red Dot/ 1443 fps

Share a quiet PM with seafire from this forum about his Blue Dot loads. I used his advice many years ago to build up some 158gr loads for my 358Win which I use for practice. I ended up playing with 158gr projectiles and the 170gr FMJ from Sierra. Great fun and economical, but keep the brass seperate from your main lot.
Somebody with QuickLoad could also run you simulations, but you wont find much reduced load data of the type you require, unless you look at cast bullet loads and then substitute jacketted projectiles.

Just finished a bunch of 357 MAX type loads in 35 Whelen. For a 170 Gr TC hardcast I use 32.0 of Accurate 2015 and the same charge with 180 JHPs. I show 1950 FPS and cloverleaf to 1" at fifty yard groups. My go to load in 30'06 is 27 Gr of the same powder (1900 fps more or less 130 to 180 Gr bullets at or under MOA to 200 yards). Use to use 30 Gr of 4198 (Speer #8) but the 2015 is useful in so many loads 32/20 to 416 RM all are nearly straight sided so it adds up. 2015 meters nice too. 2015 is to me what Blue Dot is to Seafire! I used WW primers because that is what I have all the fire-form brass primed with. All of this load development was with just-formed Federal 30'06 brass then Lyman "M" processed and a LEE factory crimp.

I started using it several years ago and it works well in my 8x57.
I contacted Rocky and he was very helpful (of course) and he made some worthwhile suggestions concerning powder and charges.

I didn't post anything here earlier because I don't think what I have is what you are looking for. But since you brought it to the top:
I have downloaded my HandiRifle in 35 Whelen for use in Mississippi's early primitive weapons season that is for antlerless deer on private land only. (I know it's not really primitive, but I don't make the rules.) Since this is the only use I'll make of this rifle, and I know there is no possible shot on my property that is more than 120 yards, I figured I would play and find a lighter recoiling load.
I use Hornady's 180 grain bullet that is designed for single-shot pistols and should not be driven at high velocities if used on game. In my rifle, 63 grains of H4831SC gives me about 2200 fps and excellent accuracy. The recoil is mild. I've taken a doe with this rifle and load in each of the past two seasons.
