Anybody use H-4831 for the Roberts with 117's and 120's? I loaded some up, gonna try them soon.

I've tried it in the past, your gun may like it more than mine. My current bob likes IMR 4831, getting 2930 with 110-115 grain bullets. It also likes 45.5 gr. H4350 with the hornady 100 gr.

I used the 120gr partitions in a Bob AI with H4831sc and it worked great.

I load h4831 with 120's, works great.

For years:

H4831 is the fav of 2 of my 257s with 120s. IMR4831 is preferred by the other 2. All get 2900 to 3000.

Looks like Mule Deer's lady introduced a cow elk to the Bob and she didn't like it. powdr

I've had 4 .257s so far. One was pure lemon and wouldn't shoot anything well enough to reliably hit a grapefruit even after a trip back to the factory and the other only saw 87s and 100s.

Of the other two, neither liked 4831 with 120s. What worked, in both, surprised me a little: 43 grains of H414, WW +P brass, Fed 215 primers (yes, primer mattered a lot), and 120 grain partitions.

I've had better luck with bullets in the 110-115 grain range with RL22.

I've had good success with H4831 and 100 grain bullets. With 75s to 90s, IMR 4064 has been my best powder.

I shot the 120gr Partition for a while over IMR4831. It made about 2,800fps from a 22" M700. It worked nicely on deer and probably would have worked on bigger stuff too. Can't see H4831 being much different.

Yep in one AI & a couple standard Bobs. Works nicely. Hunter works really nicely also.

I have a very custom, very expensive and very fickle 257 Rob that does not like light .25 cal bullets. It seems to love the 115 BT and 120 PT with IMR and H 4831.

With the 115 BT it likes 42.9 gr of IMR 4831 for 2879 fps from a 24" barrel.
44 gr of H4831 for 2901 fps

The 120 PT likes 45 gr of H4831 and pushes the bullet at 2910 fps

My 2 257,s like 115gr Nosler partitions. Best powder so
far has been RL22, Norma MRP, and H4831SC in that order.
All these powder were shot in the model 70. The other rifle
is a 7600 pump and I haven,t shot it in a while. I always
used IMR4350 in it.

I would not like "a very custom, very expensive and very fickle 257 Rob" that likes the light bullets and not the heavies.
I think you have a winner.

The 120gr Nosler Partitions I shoot in my 257 Roberts did not group as well as the 115gr Nosler Partitions. All the game
I got with it came from he 115gr Partitions. I,m currently
loading 110gr Accubonds for it, but haven,t taken anything
with them. I,ve had very good luck with the Accubonds
in 270 Winchester and 7mm Mag. Expect the same with the 110gr
Accubonds.

I have a favorite deer and pronghorn load for my faster twist (9") .250 Savage that consists of the 110 grain AB with 38.5 grains of Accurate Arms 4350 with about any case and primer. This runs about 2800fps with my 23" barrel. It really works well, even on larger mule deer bucks.

Thanks for the help. But slower powders like RL22, MRP,
and H4831Sc gave higher velocity, with better accuracy.

I really was not referencing your choice of powder here. If you would note, my load was for a .250 Savage, not a .257 Roberts. Of course, your slower powders would be as good, or even better, in that application. Actually, my point was to compliment you on your choice of a really good bullet that I have used on both deer and pronghorns.

Don't overlook RL19 or IMR 7828 when loading the 115-120gr bullets in the Bob. powdr

My best Roberts loads are 115 bt's or 117 interlocks w 43-43.5 grains of RL19.

I,m going out to the garage in a few minutes to load some
more .257 Roberts shells. I bought a pound of RL17 at
Sportsmans Ware House, last weekend. I,ll load about 12,
115gr Nosler partitions and 12, 110gr Accubonds. I,ll
give them a try. I might try a few 100gr bullets also.
