I am loading ammo for my boys, they both run 7mm RM rifles. I also have a great shooting 7mm RM. I would like to find one decent load that works well in all three rifles. Anyone have any goto loads that will work well?

What are you shooting? Ranges ect?

My go to for deer/hogs would be a 140 Ballistic Tip with Reloder 22.

How old are your boys? Are they sensitive to recoil? They may not be, but here is a very mild load that shoots damn good in my 7mm rem mag:





When I developed this load, I was shooting hunter class bench rest comp at my local club and this load was very easy on the shoulder, barrel and was very accurate for the 10 shot strings we were shooting.

Well for deer and antelope the 139 gr Hornady SP and 65-65.5 grs of IMR 4831 over a FED 215 in WW brass has worked well for me in my M700 ADL 7 mag . It also served well in 2 friends M77's in 7 mag. Under moa and keep them in the ribs. About 3150fps. Magnum Man

140 grain Sierra FB, 66.8 grains RL-19, Fed 215 primer, WW brass, OAL 3.2615", 3000 fps.

I can give you some ideas, but what bullet do you want to use? I have some good loads for 139/40, 160 and 175 that might get you going in the right direction.

Generally, I like the Nosler data from their website (start one grain down from max and you should get a great-shooting load). Hornady bullets shoot real close to the Noslers.

For the most part, these loads would be for deer and antelope, from 300 yards in to 50 yards.

I was planning on bullets in the 140 grain area. I have several types on the bench but have not gone through them to talley them up. I think I have 140 grain ballistic tips, some 150 grain flat base and should have some nosler partitions....

A Barnes TTSX in 120grs will out penetrate most 140-150gr bullets, you can start it faster, and it will recoil less. I have been loading 120gr X, TSX and now TTSX bullets in and for my dads 7 Mag, my sons 7 Mag, my BIL's 7mag and my associate pastors 7Mag. This bullet has accounted ittself very well on game up to medium sized African animals, Elk and Black bear. Powder was a hefty dose of Reloader 22.

That bullet for those rifles has been working wonderfully for about 20 years or a bit more. You can get them to launch at around 3400-3500fps, and this makes them VERY deadly as well as easy to hit with out to 500 yards or so IME. IS my/our one load for many 7mm Remington Magnums.

I am going to play with this bullet some more in my 7mm Mashburn Super, (at 3700-3800fps)but because I have the powder capacity to drive them fast enough to suit me (over 3400fps for sure) I will also be testing the 139GMX, 140TTSX, and 140 Accubond in this rifle.

With a 140, I'd go with 4831 or RL 19....

I myself, like 160 or 175 grain bullets with the 7 Mag, since I also hunt with a 7 x 57.... that gets the lighter bullets..

with 160s and 175s, I like RL 25 or H 1000... the latter being my primary choice...

Oakster out in your country I have lost count of the deer and antelope I've killed with the 140 NPT in the 7 Rem Mag driven about 3200 fps with RL22, IMR4831,and some other powders I can't recall right now.

The load has been used from 30-40 yards and as far as 500 or so. Kills with impunity,and kills are certain at any reasonable distance I have tried and is not too tough on the chops.

Find some rl-19 and have some fun.
It has worked in several rifles for me.

I've used RL-19 for 140gr and IMR-7828 for 160gr and have been well pleased.

Not low recoil, but 140 gr. TSX over RL22 at 3300 works well in a lot of rifles, and kills all out of proportion to it's bullet weight.

I have shot lots of deer with 139 Hornady Interlocks loaded to just over 3100 fps over Reloder 22. I have used IMR 7828ssc with Nosler AB and it shoots extremely well, also.I do not push them to max, as it is not really necessary and I take pitty on the barrels of my rifles!

For 160 and 175-grain bullets, I really like Reloder 25 and Reloder 33,but about any of the slow powers will give you good results with the heavy bullets.

The most consistent loads for me in the cart out of many diff 7RMs has been 150NBTs over 66g R22 lit by 215s in R+P or WW brass or 69g H4831 under 140NBT or NAB. The R22 load is my first pick in every 7RM I've loaded for and more often than not seems to be a pet load. I have 3 7RMs currently and the R22 load shoots very well in all 3. Not to mention that the 150NBT is an excellent whitetail pill.

I have found no better powder for the 7 Mag than RL-22 for bullets of 160gr or less.

If going to 175's than switch to RL-25.

Any of the better 140/150 gr bullets will work just fine on deer & antelope; if elk is on the menu, then a 160 NPT or a 150 TSX is a better choice.

The Hornady 154 grain spire point over 67.1 of (Scotland) H4831 has worked for decades in a number of rifles as a general purpose load.

I luckily was able to buy a bunch of both at 1/2 price long ago when a LGS closed out - just now running out of both and will have to see how it translates into Australian H4831sc.

My Rem 700 7mm Rem Mag likes 71.5gns RL25 and a 154gn Hornady Interlock for 3150fps.
